Ligue 1 side Montpellier have this morning announced the arrival of 22-year-old English striker Stephy Mavididi on a permanent deal from Juventus.
Mavididi first discovered Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 campaign, spending a season-long loan with Dijon. He did not leave on good terms, with club president Olivier Delcourt angry that the player asked him not to activate their option to buy him because he wanted to return to England.
Mavididi comes in to support existing enigmatic duo of Andy Delort and Gaëtan Laborde in the Montpellier attack, having scored 8 goals and delivered 2 assists in 28 matches in all competitions for DFCO last season.
Juve have announced that they will earn €6.3m in the deal, payable in three instalments. Mavididi is capable of playing central or on the wings.
MHSC President Laurent Nicollin reacted to the deal:
“It is a source of satisfaction to sign an additional striker of the top level which is what the coach wanted. I hope that our attacking duo will manage it well and will become a wonderful trio. Aside from that, it is of course up to the coach to find the right formula, playing with just one, two or three up top. What is for sure is that this signing adds quality and potential to the team.”
