Bobby Roode On HBK Mentoring Him, His NXT Run Being Best Of His Career

Former NXT World Champion and current SmackDown Live Superstar Bobby Roode recently spoke with the folks at Channel Guide Magazine for an interview. Below are some of the highlights.

On being “mentored” by WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels: “I had the opportunity over the last several months to sit down and be mentored by Shawn Michaels himself. So, it has been a really cool experience. Even though I’ve been in this business for almost two decades, this last year has been really gratifying. I’ve got to learn a lot and continue to learn. That’s one of the best things about being in this business is you never stop learning.”

On considering his run in NXT as one of the best of his career: “It is probably the most special thing to happen to me. Being able to headline TakeOver events, especially during WrestleMania weekend with [Shinsuke] Nakamura into SummerSlam weekend. It has become a huge time for NXT.”

Rosemary Goes Into Detail On Shoot Incident With Sexy Starr At TripleMania

As we reported over the weekend, GFW star Rosemary was the victim of a shoot incident by Sexy Starr at the AAA TripleMania event on Saturday.

Following the incident, Rosemary took to social media to reveal all the details surrounding the much-talked-about situation.

Let me make this perfectly clear: if you take liberties with someone’s body when they are giving it to you and trusting you to keep them safe, you are not tough. You are an asshole. And you don’t belong in this business.

Sexy Star decided to do just that this weekend at Triplemania. And while I have remained quiet on social media until I was more calm to address this situation, I have now been informed that she is telling people that it is a work. You are all now being informed that Sexy Star is a liar. She was a liar in the locker room when she was forced to apologize and instead cooked up some bullsh*t excuse that she ‘didn’t know’ and she is a liar now. You know if you are torquing on someone’s arm. You know an armbar is a real and dangerous hold.

The only reason your face is not broken right now is because a little voice inside my head as I lay on the apron kept repeating, ‘Don’t go to Mexican prison..’ (thanks, Demon)

However, turning to positives: the outreach from the wrestling community has been incredible. I’m overwhelmed with how much love I feel right now from friends, fans, and people I have yet to meet in this amazing business. We are a family and we protect our own. If you violate that, you are not welcome here.

I also want to thank the AAA locker room. Multiple people came up to me saying how sorry and disgusted they were. Thank you Hamada and Shani, who also had to deal with bullsh*t from Star during that match. Thank you, Vampiro, for professionally trying to calm a volatile situation, though, as you know, once the excuses started pouring out of Sexy Star’s mouth in lieu of an apology, it was over.

Thank you to the amazing GFW locker room, both present that night and not. I have so much support from everyone, and talent, crew and office have all reached out to show me that.

Zack Sabre Jr. On Not Signing With WWE, His Crazy Travel Schedule

– Zack Sabre Jr. spoke with NJPW on a number of wrestling topics, check out the highlights below:

On not signing with the WWE:

“It would be like asking a musician, ‘Why didn’t you sign with the biggest record label?’ I’m just concerned with being the best professional wrestler I can be. …It was really just a personal choice. This is my path.”

On working the G1 Climax tournament and his travel schedule:

“When it comes to the G1, you’re talking about probably the highest quality tournament that I’ve been in. But for four or five years now, I’ve not had any time off. There have been some weeks where I’d wrestle in three countries, in that same week! I’ll have three international flights coming up next week, all within four days. So being in Japan for one month has almost been like a rest for me!”

On wrestlers portraying “Strong Style” improperly:

“New Japan’s origin is based on a real fundamental ‘Action Strong Style.’ A lot of foreign wrestlers try to copy Japanese wrestling, but I think they miss the point. The idea is that obviously ‘pro-wrestling’ is the strongest style. And I feel that foundation has to be in submission wrestling, and a very high level of ‘basic’ wrestling. Obviously now a lot of wrestlers are incredibly skilled athletes, but I think they’re forgetting their fundamental wrestling. Or they have no interest in it. My focus is on making very basic things look good.”

Impact Wrestling On Pop TV Preview For Tonight (August 31st)

Global Force Wrestling (GFW) returns on Pop TV tonight with the latest weekly episode of Impact Wrestling.

Tonight’s show is scheduled to feature the in-ring return of “The Canadian Destroyer” Petey Williams after an eight-year absence from the promotion, as well as the “Championship Celebration” of the new GFW World Champion Eli Drake.

Additionally, Impact Wrestling this evening will feature the latest on Bobby Lashley and American Top Team (ATT), and a tag-team contest pitting Fallah Bahh and Bokara against O.V.E. (Ohio Versus Everything).

Chris Jericho On Vince McMahon Turning Down His WrestleMania Pitch

Chris Jericho was recently interviewed by Busted Open Radio, where he discussed his pitch to Vince McMahon for WrestleMania XXX, which the WWE chairman ended up turning down.

Jericho said that he wanted to wrestle Bray Wyatt at the event, and he wanted to have Shawn Michaels in his corner to offset the Wyatt Family, who would be in Bray’s corner. But, as previously mentioned, Vince turned it down.

“When I went to pitch it to Vince I read the room wrong and made some mistakes. Not only was there somebody else in the room, but he was also hungry and eating. It just led to this whole deck of cards falling, where had I pitched it under the rules of knowing my audience, I could’ve got it through.”

Instead of facing Jericho, Wyatt faced John Cena, and “Y2J” wasn’t on the card at all.

Big Spoiler On Tonight’s WWE SmackDown Main Event

– According to PWInsider, it appears the word backstage is that Shinsuke Nakamura will defeat Randy Orton in tonight’s main event. Nakamura will then become the new #1 contender to WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.

Nakamura vs. Mahal is set to take place at the WWE Hell In a Cell pay-per-view with the title on the line, the Cell will help prevent interference from The Singh Brothers.

Hell In a Cell is set for this Fall on October 8th from the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

The Rock Praises Cousin Nia Jax, Charlotte Flair Explores China (Video)

– Part-time WWE Superstar The Rock recently took to Twitter and praised his cousin Nia Jax. The rising female star recently took part in a fashion show, which prompted praise from The People’s Champion himself, check out the tweet below.

AJ Styles On a Possible Brock Lesnar Rematch

Last night’s WWE Survivor Series PPV featured AJ Styles vs Brock Lesnar in a match that has been garnering rave reviews from not only WWE fans, but Paul Heyman as well. Last night Heyman praised Styles in a backstage interview which you can check out at this link.

AJ Styles has since issued the following Tweet on a possible rematch between him and The Beast:

Tonight didn’t go my way… but since I came to @WWE, I’ve wanted to prove I’m the best and that I can hang with ANYONE.

Despite losing to Baron Corbin at WWE Survivor Series, The Miz Tweeted the following post-match thoughts, which drew a response from Corbin:

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens appear to be proud of themselves after interfering in the main event of Survivor Series last night, and they’re also proud of Raw’s victory as the two Smackdown stars Tweeted the following:

NXT Halloween Havoc announced, Ciampa vs. Breakker title match set

Halloween Havoc is returning to NXT for the second straight year.

WWE has announced that the Tuesday, October 26 edition of NXT will be a special Halloween Havoc-themed episode of the show. It will be headlined by Tommaso Ciampa defending his NXT Championship against Bron Breakker.

The announcement of the Halloween Havoc episode was made by Ciampa during a promo on tonight’s NXT. Ciampa brought up Breakker wanting to challenge for his title and said that actions speak louder than words. Ciampa asked who would have the balls to take his title from him, leading to Breakker coming down to the ring to confront Ciampa.

Breakker said he’s treated Ciampa with nothing but respect since coming to NXT, but he wants to be NXT Champion. Breakker challenged Ciampa to a title match at Halloween Havoc.

Ciampa said the difference between him and Breakker is that while Breakker wants the NXT Championship, Ciampa needs it. Ciampa said the title is just a stepping stone to something bigger and better for Breakker. But for Ciampa, the NXT Championship is something bigger and better.

After Samoa Joe had to relinquish the NXT Championship, Ciampa defeated LA Knight, Pete Dunne, and Von Wagner in a fatal four-way match to win the title on the premiere of NXT 2.0. Breakker (real name Bronson Rechsteiner) also made his NXT debut that night, defeating Knight. Ciampa and Breakker congratulated each other on their wins, but Breakker took a long look at Ciampa’s NXT title belt.

Ciampa & Breakker teamed together to defeat Dunne & Ridge Holland on NXT two weeks ago.

Ciampa is facing Joe Gacy in a non-title match on NXT next week. If Gacy wins, he’ll be added to the NXT Championship match at Halloween Havoc.

Last year’s NXT Halloween Havoc episode was the first time WWE has used the show name since WCW went out of business.

Skyler, Crazzy Steve advance in Impact Digital Media title tourney

The Impact Wrestling Digital Media Championship was announced last week, a new title that will be defended on the company’s digital media channels.

The first champion will be crowned with a single elimination tournament that will take place on every Tuesday and Wednesday on the aforementioned digital media channels like YouTube and Impact+.

The finals of the tournament are scheduled for October 23rd during Countdown To Glory, prior to the Bound For Glory pay-per-view.

Here’s what happened in the first two matches this week:

First Round: John Skyler defeated Zicky Dice (w/ Sam Beale) to advance in the Digital Media Championship Tournament

Dice debuted a few weeks ago as a member of Brian Myers’ Learning Tree stable while Skyler debuted on Impact with a win over Matt Cardona. As of late, he has been feuding with Laredo Kid in a best-of-three series.

The match saw Dice work heel, relying on cheap tricks and cheating to gain control of the match. Skyler eventually made a comeback and the last couple of minutes saw both men get some near falls.

Dice hit a ushigoroshi for a close one with the initial finish seeing Dice pin Skyler with an O’Connor roll. But when the referee saw Dice pull the tights, he stopped the count which allowed Skyler to roll over Dice and pull the tights himself to get the win. The crowd was definitely behind Dice throughout the match.

First Round: Crazzy Steve (w/ Rosemary) defeated Hernandez (w/ Johnny Swinger) to advance in the Digital Media Championship Tournament

This match was short. It played out like a speed vs. power match with Steve getting all the offense early until Hernandez got a hold of him, power bombed him, and cut him off.

Hernandez worked over Steve for about a minute before Steve regained control by biting Hernandez and then locking in the Upside Down. Steve went for Deep Impact, but was blocked. That coincided with Swinger wanting to get involved for some reason, causing a small distraction that allowed Steve to roll up Hernandez to advance.
