City Football Group now in talks to buy ESTAC Troyes instead of AS Nancy in Ligue 2

L’Est-Eclair report that the City Football Group, who own Manchester City and a handful of other football franchises worldwide, are now in talks to acquire Ligue 2 side ESTAC Troyes, having appeared to step back from a quasi-imminent purchase of another French second division outfit, AS Nancy Lorraine.

The Abu Dhabi-backed organisation has turned definitively away from buying Nancy, after talks were suspended before COVID-19 hit.

An intermediary for City Football Group has approached ESTAC Troyes President Daniel Masoni about a possible sale. 4 years ago, the club was due to be sold to American investor Gary Allen for €3m, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.

The outlet goes on to suggest that local authorities in Troyes view a potential acquisition of the club by City Football Group as a good thing, with the club being valued at between €7m to €10m, following their most recent audition with the French football financial watchdog, the DNCG.

City Football Group’s most recent acquisition was the purchase of Belgian 2nd division side SK Lommel.
