Montpellier President Nicollin denies talks with Real Madrid goalkeeper Luca Zidane

Speaking to Midi Libre, Ligue 1 side Montpellier’s President Laurent Nicollin moved to deny initial reporting from MARCA that his side had begun conversations with Real Madrid goalkeeper Luca Zidane, who is poised to be a free agent at the end of this month.

“He is a very good goalkeeper, with lots of potential, but of his profile, we already have Dimitry Bertaud. What we are looking for is a number one.”

Nicollin went on to add that the player’s agent, Alain Migliaccio, approached him to offer him his client, and not the other way around.

Zidane Jr spent this season on loan at Spanish second division side Racing Santander.

SDR are open to striking a deal, but sources tell Get French Football News that they are seeking €20m including bonuses to conclude a sale. Aside from Rennes and Wolves, who are both engaged in active discussions to sign the French talent, L’Équipe report that Southampton and AS Monaco have now joined the race and have activated talks.

The Saints have actually been in conversations with the player’s representatives for several weeks already, with them unconvinced about their capacity to attain a work permit for Ghanaian central defender Mohammed Salisu, who they also like.

AS Monaco in the meantime have entered conversations more recently, in the last few days in fact, immediately following the arrival of Paul Mitchell as the club’s new Sporting Director.

Reims want €20m including bonuses for the player, and owing to the enormous interest, have never been more confident about achieving that sum for a player with just 12 months remaining on his existing deal.

Official | Montpellier sign Stephy Mavididi from Juventus for €6.3m

Ligue 1 side Montpellier have this morning announced the arrival of 22-year-old English striker Stephy Mavididi on a permanent deal from Juventus.

Mavididi first discovered Ligue 1 during the 2019/20 campaign, spending a season-long loan with Dijon. He did not leave on good terms, with club president Olivier Delcourt angry that the player asked him not to activate their option to buy him because he wanted to return to England.

Mavididi comes in to support existing enigmatic duo of Andy Delort and Gaëtan Laborde in the Montpellier attack, having scored 8 goals and delivered 2 assists in 28 matches in all competitions for DFCO last season.

Juve have announced that they will earn €6.3m in the deal, payable in three instalments. Mavididi is capable of playing central or on the wings.

MHSC President Laurent Nicollin reacted to the deal:

“It is a source of satisfaction to sign an additional striker of the top level which is what the coach wanted. I hope that our attacking duo will manage it well and will become a wonderful trio. Aside from that, it is of course up to the coach to find the right formula, playing with just one, two or three up top. What is for sure is that this signing adds quality and potential to the team.”

City Football Group now in talks to buy ESTAC Troyes instead of AS Nancy in Ligue 2

L’Est-Eclair report that the City Football Group, who own Manchester City and a handful of other football franchises worldwide, are now in talks to acquire Ligue 2 side ESTAC Troyes, having appeared to step back from a quasi-imminent purchase of another French second division outfit, AS Nancy Lorraine.

The Abu Dhabi-backed organisation has turned definitively away from buying Nancy, after talks were suspended before COVID-19 hit.

An intermediary for City Football Group has approached ESTAC Troyes President Daniel Masoni about a possible sale. 4 years ago, the club was due to be sold to American investor Gary Allen for €3m, only for the deal to collapse at the last minute.

The outlet goes on to suggest that local authorities in Troyes view a potential acquisition of the club by City Football Group as a good thing, with the club being valued at between €7m to €10m, following their most recent audition with the French football financial watchdog, the DNCG.

City Football Group’s most recent acquisition was the purchase of Belgian 2nd division side SK Lommel.

Manchester City, Juventus & Arsenal interested in Houssem Aouar – L’Équipe

L’Équipe claim that Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus all retain an interest in 22-year-old French attacking midfielder Houssem Aouar, who will face the latter side in the Champions’ League Round of 16 2nd Leg tonight.

Pep Guardiola adores the player, but elected to sign Ferran Torres from Valencia earlier this summer – this doesn’t rule out the possibility of a deal, but perhaps makes it more unlikely.

OL are seeking to earn at least €60m in order to part with the player, but in the COVID-19 market, that could be tricky. The teams that are interested in him are waiting until the end of the Champions’ League to know more about how they intend to operate in the market.

Under contract with OL until 2023, Aouar has been key a pivotal moments in 2019/20 for the club during the Champions’ League campaign. A major performance against Juventus tonight would likely boost his market value.

Aulas would be open to keeping the player if the offers aren’t there, but OL ideally want to sell.
