The first Friday of every October is National Manufacturing Day. This year it is celebrated on October 7, with over 1,600 events happening across the U.S. The purpose of the day is to showcase modern manufacturing and to get future generations inspired to enter the many fields that make up manufacturing in the U.S. NMD is supported by many manufacturers across the country, along with the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International®, the National Association of Manufacturers, and the Manufacturing Extension Partnership.
Manufacturing is facing a skilled labor shortage, so being able to teach future generations about the industry is crucial to its future success. National Manufacturing Day gives manufacturers like us the opportunity to open doors to the public and bring in high school students potentially interested in the field. It also allows companies to provide students with an accurate image of the industry.
At Astro Machine Works, we will be hosting both Warwick and Ephrata High Schools on October 6th and 7th. We expect to see nearly 120 students come through our doors. In addition we will also have representatives from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology for students interested in furthering their education in Manufacturing. Stevens is a top rated manufacturing college. Their flagship programs, Machine Tool and Computer Aided Manufacturing has supplied Astro with approximately 40 graduates throughout the years. Other programs include , welding, HVAC, Water/Environmental Tech, Architectural Engineering, Woodworking, and more – even better is that post-graduation, they guarantee 100% job placement in the Machine Tool program!
