Why John Cena vs. The Undertaker Was Short, WWE Stars at UFC Show

WWE fans have been waiting to see John Cena face The Undertaker in a match at WrestleMania for several years now. The company finally went through with the match at WrestleMania 34 last week, but WWE built up the match in an interesting way. It began when Cena challenged Undertaker to a WrestleMania match for weeks with no answer from “The Phenom’s” end. The Undertaker never even appeared on Raw or Smackdown in any of the weeks leading up to WrestleMania. It wasn’t until during the event itself that The Undertaker arrived and accepted Cena’s request for a match. Even after Undertaker arrived, the match against John Cena was surprisingly quick as it saw The Undertaker get the win in just a little over two minutes.
The way that the match was handled has been heavily debated over the past few weeks, but a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed that it all had to do with The Undertaker’s health. The company purposefully did not have The Undertaker on any pre-WrestleMania shows due to his recent health issues, and the match was kept short for the same reasons. WWE did not advertise or make the match official for the show in advance because they believe that fans would be expecting a longer and more epic match if it had been given more buildup. Undertaker will compete against Chris Jericho at the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27th, but it is unknown whether or not he will have a similar type of match on that show.
WrestleMania last week was WWE’s biggest showcase of the year, and the event had a large UFC representation. Between Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey competing on the show, and with UFC President Dana White in attendance for the event, it seems that MMA and wrestling fans alike were interested in seeing this year’s WrestleMania show. However last night’s UFC on Fox show featured quite a number of current WWE Superstars in attendance. UFC revealed on Twitter that Smackdown’s Dolph Ziggler and Becky Lynch were both in attendance for last night’s show. Lynch was there to support her boyfriend, Luke Sanders, who defeated Patrick Williams by unanimous decision.
