With just days before their highly anticipated collision at WWE Royal Rumble, Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and challenger Finn Balor kicked off this week’s go-home edition of Monday Night RAW in an expectedly explosive fashion.
After Mr. McMahon himself welcomed the “Beast Incarnate” back to RAW the two were interrupted by a fired up Balor, who once again got in the boss man’s face looking to prove that he does, indeed, have what it takes to dethrone a monster.
McMahon then went on a long, rambling rant telling the made-up story of the Biblical King David, who apparently ate too many wild mushrooms, got himself beat up by the giant Goliath, and then was never seen or heard from again… until one day he was reincarnated as Finn Balor. Yes, I seem to recall that story exactly from my time in Old Testament Studies.
Long story short, Balor ended up in singles competition against a returning Braun Strowman, wrestling his first match since undergoing shoulder surgery in early December. He actually seemed to have the bout put away, delivering a right-on-the-money Coup de Grace, before Lesnar hit the ring and dropped his Royal Rumble challenger with a devastating F5.
