Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira has slammed Sadio Mane’s fourth-place finish in the 2019 Ballon d’Or.
The Nice boss is a big admirer of the Liverpool star who scored 26 times in all competitions last season and helped them win a sixth European crown.
“I find it unfair. I find it unfair compared to what he did, compared to the number of games he played, compared to the number of times he was decisive,” the Arsenal legend told RFI.
“Considering the involvement he had had in goals, and importantly the way he behaved on the field, I think he deserved much more than fourth place.”
Lionel Messi claimed the award for a sixth time ahead of Mane’s team-mate Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
This season Mane has helped Liverpool establish a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League and is the early favourite to become the third Red in three years to win the PFA Player of the Year.
