AJ Styles is still out of action after suffering a minor ankle injury at TLC when Dean Ambrose gave him a backdrop over the top rope. WWE had hoped that their World Champion would be cleared to wrestle for Tuesday’s SmackDown, but that wasn’t the case.
Styles has been pulled from all advertising for upcoming SmackDown live events, up until the December 26th Madison Square Garden show. Styles is advertised to defend the WWE Championship there against Dean Ambrose and John Cena in a three way match.
AJ was originally scheduled to face James Ellsworth on Tuesday, but WWE ran a storyline that Ellsworth was sick and couldn’t compete rather than draw attention to AJ’s injury on TV. Daniel Bryan noted on the WWE Network’s Talking Smack that Ellsworth will still get his Title shot at some point.
