Uneven distribution of rainfall across India has created a crisis for farmers who deal with the loss of agricultural harvest each year.
Last month we had discovered that despite having a flood like situation in north-eastern states of Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, the states had received deficient rainfall. Assam’s Dhemaji district is the best example of the flood-drought erratic cycle that goes on every year.

To make sure that the crop produce gets the necessary irrigation, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to carry out artificial rainfall to help farmers who are plagued by scarcity of rainfall. IIT Kanpur in collaboration with the state government will use indigenous technology developed by the institute.
