Some of the best European volleyball clubs are coming to London this September for the biggest volleyball event of the year in England. The London Legacy Volleyball Cup is a two-day pre-season friendly tournament for both men and women, held at the Copper Box Arena in London on 12th and 13th September. In the men’s draw the line-up includes Polish giants PGE Skra Bełchatów alongside the best English teams CBL Polonia London and Team Northumbria. On the women’s side of the competition, Team Northumbria and Polonia SideOutLondon will be battling against the French champions RC Cannes and the top German Schweriner SC.
The competition promises to be a great piece of entertainment and a massive boost for the already growing volleyball community in the big city. What is more, if the London Legacy Volleyball Cup delivers the expected success, it can become an annual event organised every year!
The tournament is held thanks to Volleyball England, the national governing body for volleyball in the country. Its Chief Executive, Lisa Wainwright, did not spear words to convey her enthusiasm about the new event:
“We are delighted to be able to announce such a strong line-up of teams for the inaugural London Legacy Volleyball Cup. We especially have to thank PGE Skra Bełchatów for their commitment to the tournament concept and their desire to forge closer links with the English volleyball family and the extensive Polish community in England, promoting volleyball to a wider audience. We look forward to welcoming volleyball fans from around the country and all over Europe to the iconic Copper Box Arena in September and recapturing the magic which so many people experienced at the volleyball during London 2012.”
Konrad Piechocki, the President of PGE Skra Bełchatów also expressed his excitement about the prospects presented to his club:
“We are very pleased that PGE Skra Bełchatów will take part in the London Legacy Volleyball Cup and will be able to play in front of a huge crowd in London. As a well-known volleyball club with world champions in the team and playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world, we are very keen to promote our sport outside Poland and to pass our passion and experience onto Volleyball England and CBL Polonia London. This tournament is a great opportunity to promote our beautiful sport!”
