Swedish TV channel deny ignoring Man Utd star’s goal

TV4 have denied ignoring Victor Lindelof’s goal for Sweden against the Faroe Islands, in the midst of speculation over the Manchester United man’s commitment to the national side.

The centre-back was called-up for the international fixtures in March, but decided to opt out of the squad.

After his withdrawal, TV4  reported internal conflict as the reason for his withdrawal.

The 25-year-old was heavily criticised by Swedish fans and he even received death threats for pulling out of the squad.

In fact, his wife Maja Nilsson Lindelöf was due to give birth to the couple’s first child, and he said he wanted to support his family.

Lindelof scored in Sweden’s a 4-0 win over the Faroe Islands on Thursday and TV4 decided not to show the goal or mention the player in their highlights package of the game, reports Sport Witness.

Sportbladet got in contact with TV4 and spoke to press officer Ludvig Ternstedt.

He said: “No no. It has absolutely nothing to do with the boycott. Sometimes the editors adjust the goals to be displayed, depending on the amount of time available.

“But I can guarantee that it has absolutely nothing to do with the boycott. In our highlights after the match and in Sport’s evening broadcast yesterday we showed all the goals.”
