ANAHEIM, CA —Say what you want about stroller size, smoking and crowd control at Disneyland. People were ready and waiting to click for a “boarding pass” to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land, the largest improvement to the Disneyland Resort since the park’s opening day.
On Thursday, May 2, Disneyland’s online reservation system opened for business at 10 a.m. only to sell out of all general reservations by noon, according to a resort spokesperson. After all, who doesn’t want to try their hand at flying the Millennium Falcon?
There is still hope for fans who didn’t snag one of the coveted spots.
Anyone who books a room and stays at one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels between May 31 and June 23 will automatically receive a reservation to visit the new “Star Wars” land.
The $1 billion, 14-acre Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land will feature two rides, four eateries, one space-themed cantina, and five retail shops. A replica of the attraction is coming to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, but it will not open there until Aug. 29.
At 14 acres each, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will be Disney’s most significant single-themed land expansions ever, transporting guests to live their own Star Wars adventures in Black Spire Outpost, a village on the remote planet of Batuu, full of unique sights, sounds, smells and tastes. Guests can become part of the story as they sample galactic food and beverages, explore an intriguing collection of merchant shops and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy aboard Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run.
After the first three “reservation-only weeks,” Disneyland is expected to release a “virtual queuing” system for visitors who want to experience the new land (think Fast Pass).
Parkgoers will have to obtain a boarding pass and will be called to enter the land when there is enough room, according to park officials.
Specifics about how to get into the “virtual queue” will be disclosed closer to that time.
