Shane McMahon To Crown New Champions On Smackdown Live

WWE.com has announced that Shane McMahon will crown new tag team champions on the upcoming May 7 edition of SmackDown Live.

This likely comes as no surprise to many WWE fans, who have indeed been curious as to how the company would handle the recently vacated SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships. Matt and Jeff Hardy were forced to surrender the titles on the April 30 SmackDown, after announcing that Jeff would be going on the shelf due to knee surgery.

Most of the time, WWE would run a tournament to decide the new champions. But that will likely not happen here, as one night would perhaps not be enough time for even a short tournament to take place. It could be that Shane will announce a Triple Threat or a Fatal 4-Way Match, with the winning team receiving the championships.

Jeff has undergone successful knee surgery and is currently on the mend. He is expected to miss six to nine months of action.
