Report reveals Man Utd double deal ‘unlikely’ this summer

A report claims the possibility of Man Utd signing both Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish and Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho this summer as ‘unlikely’.

Sancho is United’s primary summer target but last Monday’s deadline for a deal set by the Bundesliga club passed without any kind of negotiation or resolution.

That prompted sporting director Michael Zorc to declare: “We are planning around Jadon. He will be a BVB player next season.”

While head of professional football Sebastian Kehl backed up that statement when asked in an interview with Sport Informations Dienst in Germany about Sancho staying at the club.

Aston Villa captain Grealish, meanwhile, has been touted as an alternative should Sancho not sign. The notion of signing both has also been suggested, though that would largely depend on the club’s ability to sign the duo without overspending.

And The Athletic claims that when one source, who is ‘closely connected’ Man Utd, was asked whether a deal for both players could be done, they responded: “Possibly, but it’s unlikely because of the money.”

The report adds that ‘Grealish is not seen as an alternative to Sancho’ with the Villa man ‘a totally different type of player’. A deal for Grealish ‘is not even being discussed between the clubs’ with the Red Devils having ‘more important matters to attend to’.

The idea that Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Tottenham will buy Grealish this summer ‘has been dismissed’ which gives Man Utd some breathing room while they decide whether to pursue him at a later date.

Man City ‘should not be ruled out now’ but it remains unlikely that anybody will pay the asking price of between £70m and £80m this summer.
