Real president Perez denied Ramos free transfer to China

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez claims he denied Sergio Ramos a free transfer to China as it “would set a terrible precedent for other players.”

Spanish newspaper AS claimed on Saturday that both Liverpool and Manchester United were interested in bringing Ramos to the Premier League with the 33-year-old wanting to leave Real.

Before the Daily Mirror claimed on Sunday that Liverpool would not sign the Spaniard even if he was available on a free transfer.

Ramos is Real’s longest serving player and is worshipped by the fanbase for the success he has helped bring to the club during his time as captain.

And now Perez has explained that Ramos wanted a move to China but he refused it as there was no way he could let him leave the Bernabeu for nothing.

“They [Ramos and his agent] came to see me in my office and told me they had a very good offer from China but the league rules over there wouldn’t permit them to pay the transfer fee,” Perez told radio station Onda Cero.

“What was I going to tell him? We said this couldn’t happen but we’d speak to the club to satisfy him but that Real Madrid could not afford to let its captain leave for free as that would set a terrible precedent for other players.”
