Asseco Resovia Rzeszów did not have great season. Rzeszów had high hopes and ambitious goals for this season. Club created true dream-team.
Dream team consisting of Ryan Millar, Gyorgy Grozer, Aleh Akhrem and Matej Cernic in order to fight for gold in both national championship and international competition.
However all the top starts of Resovia suffered from minor injuries during the season and the team from Rzeszów managed to get the bronze medal which was a big disappointment for both club management and fans and also players themselves. As the result Ljubomir Travica will be no longer a head coach of Resovia and club’s management is planning a little revolution before the next season.
It was also a problematic season for Jastrzębski Węgiel. The team defending silver from national championship and title from the Polish Cup had a dramatic opening of the season which resulted in the change of a head coach. The former player, legendary Lorenzo Bernardi came to Jastrzębie to make a mission: impossible and partly succeeded in it. The situation in the league was too complicated for his team so he played va banquet in the Champions League. As the result team fighting in play-outs was a participant of the CL Final Four!
However the biggest disappointment in this season seems to be a schedule of the games. Too many matches, too little time for practice and preparations caused many injuries of the top players and affected in a negative way on the level of the competition. Sebastian Świderski lost the most time of the season due to major injury, all the international stars of Resovia were not able to show their best skills when needed due to health problems. In my opinion such a schedule was killing the art of volleyball, also for fans. Polish fans were fed up with too many games and in many cases were unable to follow all the games. Last but not least as the result of the overloaded schedule there were no all-star game this year. There was simply no time to arrange that which shows how insane was this season….
