Pep claims Man City ‘did well’ against ‘long ball’ Man Utd

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola claims his side produced “a good performance” despite losing for the third time to Manchester United this season.

Anthony Martial fired Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ahead after he squeezed the ball under Ederson – who should have done better – after a clever free-kick from Bruno Fernandes.

Despite City having the lion’s share of possession and putting pressure on the United goal they didn’t create too many clear-cut chances.

Scott McTominay rounded off the victory with a stunning 35-yard finish after Ederson was punished for his second error of the game.

But Guardiola claimed to be happy with his team’s display, though he admitted they were lacking some attacking thrust in the 2-0 defeat.

He told BBC Sport: “We played good, we missed a little in the final third but the second half was better and it was a good performance.

“We play the same way, tried the press and defend well and we did well.

“Our game is there, we played really good in terms of coming here. They wait and did long balls on the counter-attack for Daniel James and Anthony Martial.

“We did our game but unfortunately we conceded a goal. They waited for our mistakes.

“Kevin de Bruyne is getting better, I don’t know when he will come back but he is getting better.”
