Mourinho agrees with Man Utd ref pity: ‘It would be disastrous’

Jose Mourinho appeared to agree with the pity Anthony Taylor showed Manchester United in their embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Tottenham.

United were reduced to ten men in the first half when Anthony Martial was dismissed for lashing out at Erik Lamela, leading to a xenophobic rant from Graeme Souness.

But Mourinho suggested United were fortunate not to see a further two red cards for challenges by Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw in the second half.

16 Conclusions: Manchester United 1-6 Tottenham

Mourinho was shocked by Shaw’s deliberate foul on Lucas Moura but felt the referee Anthony Taylor was sensible not to send the defender off, as it would have been “disastrous” for United.

“For sure, for sure, for sure, Manchester United could have ended this match with eight players,” Mourinho said. “For sure, they could have. I can say that because two other actions were not far from me and easy to see.

“But I agree with Anthony Taylor not to show more red cards for them because that would be a disastrous situation for them. For example, the Luke Shaw red card, okay, that’s it. The situation between Lamela, Pogba and Martial, I don’t know.”
