MN Motorists Ignore 'Road Closed' Sign, Demand Rescue: Police

LAC QUI PARLE, MN — Police say a man and woman had to be rescued in Garfield Township, Minnesota Thursday after they ignored a barrier and drove into a flooded area. At 3:49 p.m., the Lac qui Parle Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from someone who said they were trapped after driving around a “road closed” sign.

The current was so strong that it pushed the vehicle into a field. The caller said they were stuck and the water was rising fast inside the car.

When deputies arrived, they found a man standing on top the vehicle and a woman sitting inside. Authorities used cold water rescue suits and a rapid deployment craft to rescue them.

“Everyone involved in the rescue did an excellent job of helping keep a bad situation from getting worse,” the Lac qui Parle Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“This is also a good reminder if there is water going over a roadway PLEASE don’t drive through it.”
