David Luiz frustrated Frank Lampard with his failure to stick to the Chelsea manager’s game plan in the club’s pre-season friendlies, according to reports.
Lampard, who had played alongside Luiz at Stamford Bridge, allowed the Brazil international to join Arsenal for £8million.
The new Gunners signing has already been labeled a “show pony” by former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan and criticised by others after a couple of poor displays.
And The Athletic claims that ‘the situation came to a head’ at Chelsea after the Blues’ 5-3 victory over Red Bull Salzburg in a pre-season friendly match.
‘Words were exchanged between them’ after Luiz allowed his man a free header for one of Salzburg’s goals, while Lampard ‘was also annoyed about the 32-year-old delivering too many long balls from deep when the game plan he wants to instil is to play out from the back.’
Following the incident, a move to Arsenal was ‘explored by his agent Kia Joorabchian’ with Luiz concerned that he wouldn’t figure in Lampard’s plans.
