Kofi Kingston May Accomplish Unprecedented Feat on SmackDown

Kofi Kingston could make history at WrestleMania when he challenges
for the WWE Championship for the first time in his career. However, he
is up against monumental odds this Tuesday night on SmackDown Live as he
will need to go through a gauntlet to get his WrestleMania title shot. (H/T WrestlingNews)

For those of you that missed it, Vince McMahon said on Tuesday that
Kingston would need to beat Erick Rowan, Sheamus, Cesaro, United States
Champion Samoa Joe and Randy Orton on SmackDown Live. If he can do that
then he will lay claim to being the number 1 contender for Daniel
Bryan’s WWE Championship.
WWE deserves credit for moving forward with Kingston as a top
contender as the fans wanted because he was not originally planned for
the feud with Bryan and, as of a few weeks ago, the idea was for Bryan
to face a returning Superstar (Kevin Owens was the heavily rumored
opponent).

According to @WWEStats on Twitter, no WWE Superstar has ever won a
gauntlet match where they were responsible for beating everyone else in
the gauntlet. In other words, Kingston will have to beat every single
person put in front of him this Tuesday night. If that happens, then you
can expect one of the biggest pops ever in SmackDown Live history and
that will set up Kingston for his highest profile WWE match at
WrestleMania.

No @WWE Superstar has ever won a Gauntlet Match in which they were responsible for eliminating more than 4 opponents in a row all by his/herself.
In 1999, @steveaustinBSR eliminated 5 straight members of The Corporation on #RAW before falling to the 6th opponent – @VinceMcMahon. https://t.co/x0pOsqBuCT
