Iranian investment fund makes offer to buy Marseille

According to France Football, an Iranian investment fund has made an “extremely concrete” offer to acquire Ligue 1 football club Olympique de Marseille.

Current owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus is currently looking to sell the club, having already rejected several offers from multiple individuals. She wants €40m in order to part with the club.

OM are taking their time to assess the specifics of this Iranian offer, notably to ensure that the finances on offer from this investment fund are above board.

The offer is not directly from the Iranian government, a different sort of offer therefore when compared to the one that led to PSG’s purchase in 2011 on behalf of the Qatari government.

There is however no doubt that the Iranian government will have their eye on the situation.

More undoubtedly to follow in the coming days.
