La Voix du Nord report this evening that RC Lens full-back Clément Michelin is set to sign with Greek outfit AEK Athens. Having only just returned to France after taking part in the Olympic tournament which saw France knocked out at the group stage, the right-back has now travelled to Greece to wrap up the move.

Michelin had been the club’s starting right back in the year they were promoted, having arrived in 2019 from Toulouse, but was unable to displace Jonathan Clauss in the berth last season as the latter impressed throughout the campaign for Franck Haise’s men.

Lens are now looking to sign Polish international Przemysław Frankowski as his replacement, with the Chicago Fire man expected to arrive as early as tomorrow. The 26-year-old move will cost the Ligue 1 side an estimated €3m.

Speaking to France Bleu, Rennes Director of Sport Florian Maurice discussed the club’s objectives for the season to come, as well as addressing potential arrivals and departures in the remainder of the summer window.

Maurice notably touched on young midfielder Eduardo Camavinga’s contract situation, with the French international’s current deal expiring at the end of the upcoming season and reported interest from various clubs.

On the objectives this season

As are the objectives that we’ve been fixed, and that we’ve fixed ourselves, we want to qualify for Europe every season, that’s the primary objective now. That means either doing well in the league or winning one of the cups. You also have the [Conference League] play-off which, if we win it, will allow us to show what we’re capable of on the European stage.

On whether the club is looking to bring in a midfielder

Yes, that’s the aim, we’ve been working on it for a few months now. We haven’t started looking at the last minute, but we’ve seen that the market is very closed off and complicated, not much is happening right now. There are players here and there signing on a free, but in terms of transactions things aren’t moving very quickly. Apart from Jack Grealish’s transfer to Manchester City, which might cause other clubs to start recruiting and start a game of musical chairs which we could benefit from by the end of the window.

On the Eduardo Camavinga situation

We’re still at the same point, as I was saying earlier the market is very difficult. It might well be linked to moves in other clubs.

On Camavinga’s contract being up at the end of the year

It’s what I’ve always said – when a player arrives at the end of their contract, either we extend them or we find a solution for them to leave. To leave on a free, for a player who came up through the club like him, I think is good for nobody.

He has the choice between saying “I want to leave” and “I want to stay”. I know what he wants to do, we then have to find a solution which satisfies all parties.

L’Équipe reports that Italian-Brazilian goalkeeper Gabriel Pereira has left Monaco for Athletico Paranaense, having spent last season out on loan at Lazio’s youth team.

The 19-year-old, who joined in 2019 from Grêmio, had yet to make a first-team appearance in the Principality, having been limited to Gambardella Cup (Youth Coupe de France) games.

The transfer fee for the Brazilian youth international’s move has not been revealed

According to Foot Mercato, Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart are close to the signing of Monaco youngster Enzo Millot.

The two clubs are close to a total agreement for the 19-year-old central midfielder with the fee likely to be around €2m. Stuttgart director of sport Sven Mislintat has proven key in convincing the midfielder to move to Germany, having already agreed personal terms to join the Baden-Württemberg club who finished 9th in the Bundesliga last season.

The French youth international came through the Monégasques’ academy and made three first team appearances last season.

Bordeaux have tonight announced the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fransérgio on a permanent deal from Portuguese club Braga.

The 30-year-old signs a three year contract with Les Girondins – with an optional additional year. Fransérgio notably won the Portuguese cup last year, and had been at Braga since 2017.

The defensive midfielder previously played for for Funchal-based club Marítimo, as well as the likes of Athletico Paranaense and Internacional in his home country.

Speaking to Globo, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães discussed his future at Lyon.

“Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho, is to win a title with Lyon. The fans have not had one for a long time. We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league. It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen. My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”

GK, Walter Benitez (Nice) – An all round commanding display in Nice’s smash and grab win at Nantes. He kept a clean sheet via a sequence of smart stops while handling repeated barrages from the wings well throughout.

RB, Malo Gusto (Lyon) – A real prospect. The teenage Gusto defended sharply throughout Lyon’s win over Strasbourg and was a persistent outlet on the right, keen to take on his opposite number. Despite being just a teenager he looks assured, confident and ready to make the step up to the first team regular.

CB, Marquinhos (PSG) – Is there a better central defender in the world right now? Whether you answered “no” or “Rúben Dias”, regardless of the opposition in promoted Clermont, the way the PSG captain struts around the Parc des Princes in games like these halting attacks and covering his full-backs with such ease, it’s difficult to imagine him being outshone.

CB, Luan Peres (Marseille) – Peres has looked out of place until now with some erratic defending but this display in Marseille’s defeat of Monaco included more highlights than the rest of his OM career put together. Having defended coolly throughout, two sweeping long balls led to both OM goals.

LB, Melvin Bard (Nice) – The new signing was strong defensively throughout Nice’s win at Nantes and handled the flying Osman Bukari well, often playing his way out of trouble with a confidence beyond his years. His whipped cross assisted Dolberg’s stunning chested finish for the crucial opener.

DM, Ander Herrera (PSG) – A favourite of Mauricio Pochettino, who was keen to hold on to the Spaniard despite him being earmarked for sale this summer should the right offer arrive. Two Herrera goals set PSG on their way to a 4-0 win over Clermont and the 31-year-old is currently playing his most assured football since leaving Spain.

CM, Bruno Guimarães (Lyon) – Positive in his passing and imposed himself in midfield throughout Lyon’s defeat of Strasbourg while adding a couple moments of real skill, Bruno’s lofted long ball set up the opener for Moussa Dembélé and he should have had another assist for Paquetá late on after an astute dinked through ball.

AM, Téji Savanier (Montpellier) – Now Montpellier’s only driving force and creative hub following the departures of Andy Delort and Gaëtan Laborde and his typical swagger and a dictatorial display lead Montpellier in beating Saint-Étienne.

WF, Moses Simon (Nantes) – Simon often thrillingly beat Nice defenders with his speed and trickery and came excruciatingly close to scoring the opener but was denied by Lemina’s sliding goal line block. He’s come a long way in the last year.

WF, Bamba Dieng (Marseille) – Dieng could have, and maybe should have, netted four or five times in Marseille’s win at Monaco. In the end a brace was enough, having terrorised Chrislain Matsima on the left wing and hit the pot twice before half time. His power, movement and ability to dribble at speed were too much for Monaco.

ST, Terem Moffi (Lorient) – The Nigerian often produces his best against the league’s top sides and he did so again on Friday night by bagging a goal and an assist to aid Lorient’s win over champions Lille.

Speaking to Canal + after his team’s impressive 2-0 victory over Monaco, Marseille midfielder Valentin Rongier discussed the strengths of the system put in place by manager Jorge Sampaoli.

The interview transcribed in La Provence, the 26-year-old indicated that despite the demanding nature of the Argentine’s style of play, it remains an enjoyable approach to the game for the players.

“I think the system unsettles those who watch us and the teams we play against. We can adapt and change our system depending on the opponent. Monaco didn’t know how to get to our players and in which areas to go, which allowed us to get the most out of the transitions and make the difference.”

“What we’ve been doing since the start of the season is coherent. We have to keep working on certain things. Sometimes we leave ourselves too exposed, that’s the way our style of play is. We’re enjoying it and that’s the most important thing. There’s a mental and physical effort. It’s a system which requires a lot of attention, and if we get the positioning or anticipation wrong by a split second it can cost us dearly.”

Le Progrès report today that Norodom Ravichak, the Cambodian prince in the running to take over at Saint-Étienne after making his official bid, has as recently as last year worked with rivals Lyon.

Ravichak, the nephew of the current monarch of Cambodia, had been in contact with OL president Jean-Michel Aulas over a partnership with the club’s academy. As discussions advanced, the project would have included a development project based in the prince’s country. In the end, however, negotiations did not result in an agreement between the two parties.

This month, the Lyon management were surprised to see Ravichak’s name listed among the potential new owners of their arch rivals. The prince is even said to be retaining hope of striking his partnership with Lyon, despite his potential future investment in Saint-Étienne. The call for offers, which is being managed by auditing firm KPMG, has seen him put forward a guarantee of €100m. Nevertheless, the offer has yet to be approved for access to club’s recent accounts, unlike the two other candidates in the running.

The revelation comes in the build-up to the derby between the two sides, as a struggling, last-placed Saint-Étienne host a Lyon side in mixed form.

L’Équipe report that Troyes has been chosen at the venue to host the replay of the suspended Nice-Marseille fixture, to be played on October 27.

The original match had been called off at the 75th minute, after a pitch invasion ignited when OM’s Dimitri Payet threw back one of the bottles that had been targeted at him. A mass brawl between players, fans and even staff ensued, culminating in a refusal on the part of the Marseille players to return to the pitch.

The Ligue 1 authorities, the LFP, later took the decision to have the game replayed at a later date, while Nice were sanctioned with a point deduction – and an additional one suspended – and were obliged to play several games behind closed doors, including this upcoming match in Troyes.

The question over where the replay would be hosted had been complicated by the need to play far away from Nice and Marseille, but also on a Ligue 1 pitch that was equipped with VAR and goal-line technology. Troyes eventually accepted the request, after various other clubs declined to add a match to their stadium schedule out of fear of damaging their pitch.
