As protests are intensifying over felling of trees in Aarey Colony, Mumbai civic body chief Praveen Pardeshi defended cutting Aarey trees, a prominent green lung in the metropolis, saying that it has more trees than London, Tokyo or New York.
Pardeshi was speaking at an event at a university in Mumbai. He also brushed aside suggestions by activists to shift the proposed car shed to another area, arguing that the cost of acquiring and developing this plot was very high.
Instead he pinned the responsibility of slower development on people who “were holding back metro plans due to collective pressure.”
