Official | Galatasaray sign Henry Onyekuru on loan until the end of the season

AS Monaco and Galatasaray have both this afternoon confirmed a loan deal involving Nigerian attacker Henry Onyekuru.

The 22-year-old joins the Turkish side on loan until the end of the season without an option to buy.

Onyekuru joined AS Monaco on a permanent deal from Everton last summer, but struggled to enter into Leonardo Jardim’s plans. It had been thought that Robert Moreno might give him another shot following his predecessor’s sacking, but it was not to be.

Speaking in a press conference today ahead of his team’s Coupe de France clash with Lyon, Marseille boss André Villas-Boas revealed that 30-year-old Spanish central defender Alvaro Gonzalez, currently on loan at OM from Villarreal, has already begun his coaching badges.

“He has an ensemble of exceptional qualities, tactics, like the leader of an organisation. He has an understanding of the game, he has already begun his coaching badges, he is at Level B, he still needs to do A and then the pro level. He commands his defensive line, knows when to retreat, to put the opponent in an offside position, anticipate things, close down spaces. He plays for the totality of these details.”

Lyon offered €30m last month to sign Jonathan Ikoné from Lille

France Football report that Lyon had agreed to offer up to €30m to Ligue 1 Champions’ League chasing rivals Lille to sign French international attacker Jonathan Ikoné last month.

Head of Scouting at OL, Florian Maurice, sounded the player out in December, and with the ACL injuries to Memphis Depay and Jeff-Reine Adélaïde, it felt like the right time in Lyon’s eyes to go after the ex-PSG youth prospect.

LOSC quickly rebuffed Lyon’s advances, stating that they would be looking for €70m, the size of an offer they claim to have rejected already last summer for Ikoné, if they were to sell.

As a result, Les Gones quickly moved for Karl Toko Ekambi instead. PSG have a 40% sell-on percentage fee clause in the future sale of Ikoné, who is a player who will almost certainly attract bids in summer.

He is above all a good friend, a good person who is beside me in the dressing room, who helps me and who always pushes me forward. If I had to choose, of course I would want him to stay.”
