Earlier this week, U.K. promotion Southside Wrestling announced via Twitter that several WWE and NXT Superstars had been unexpectedly pulled from their final show ever, set to take place on October 26.
According to a story reported on in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, issues arose because Andy Quildan, the owner of RevPro which will be taking over Southside following the event, has a long-standing relationship with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
“It is with much sadness to announce that WWE have pulled all announced and unannounced talent from our final show. We asked permission in advance and accepted all conditions. We have spent a small fortune on posters/flyers/banners for the show which are now unusable.”
The list of talents pulled from the show by WWE includes El Ligero, Joseph Conners, Kay Lee Ray, Ilja Dragonov, Xia Brookside and Saxon Huxley.
In a major update to that situation, All Elite Wrestling has stepped in to save the day in the 11th hour, as the promotion announced that both Maxwell Jacob Friedman and Shawn Spears will be appearing at the Southside farewell on 10/26. Cody and Brandi Rhodes added that they would also attend the show.
