Collegeville, Minn. – Two Minnesota State individuals placed at the North Country Open Saturday as nine grapplers competed at the open.
Trevor Schultz (So., 125 lbs. 2-1) moved down from his usual 133 lbs. weight class and started his open competition with a fall at the 6:10 mark. After giving up a fall, Schultz moved into the third-place match where the Welcome, Minn., native defeated Aaron Dick (Concordia-Moorhead) by a 10-7 decision.
Chris Zimmer (So., 197 lbs. 4-2) had the most wins and matches for MSU on the day. Zimmer recorded three wins by decision and two decision losses. In the fifth- place match, he received the win by medical forfeit.
Both Chaydon O’Fallon (Fr., 197 lbs. 0-2) and Wyatt Running (Fr., 197 lbs. 2-2 (unattached)) competed in the 197 lbs. weight class with Zimmer. Running recorded two falls at the 0:45 and 1:53 marks. Running’s day came to an end by at the hands of Zimmer by an 8-2 decision.
The Mavericks return home for their final dual of the season when they host Northern State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate match slated for 7:00 p.m. in Taylor Center.
