Robertson Finishes Fourth, Quinn Finishes Seventh
St. Louis – Minnesota State wrestlers Cody Quinn (Sr., 165 lbs.) and Da’Wayne Robertson (Jr., 125 lbs.) both received All-American honors at the 2014-15 NCAA Division II National Championships which were completed today in St. Louis.
As a team, Minnesota State finished 17th at the national tournament after being absent from the tournament last season.
Robertson started his day with back-to-back 3-2 decision wins when he bested #3 Willie Bohince (Mercyhurst) and #7 Josh Kieffer (Indianapolis) to advance to the third-place match. #2 Gerald Huff (Adams State) downed Robertson in sudden victory by a score of 13-8. With a fourth-place finish, the Mesa, Ariz., native, earns his first NCAA Division II All-American honor and finished his first year at MSU with a 36-11 record.
Quinn lost his first match of the day to JaCobi Jones (Colorado State Pueblo) by a fall at the 5:40 mark before facing a familiar foe in the seventh-place match. The Covington, Wash., native, defeated Nicolas Haferkamp (McKendree) for the second time this post season by a major decision, 10-2. Quinn topped Haferkamp at regionals two weeks earlier. Minnesota State’s lone senior this year completes his college career with three All-American honors. He becomes the 12th Maverick wrestler to earn three such honors. Quinn finished off his career with a 75-25 record.
