Some websites are running with a rumor that C.M. Punk is in play to return to WWE at WrestleMania 33 next year, which has made Google News’s “CM Punk” alert. Punk was asked on Twitter if it’s true. He replied today: “Yes. I also prevented a Ford plant from moving to Mexico. It’s true. Going to be big. So big. Bigly. Tremendously bigly.”

Keller’s Analysis: This isn’t exactly a denial. I mean, not to stir trouble or anything, but since Punk included some allusions to Donald Trump, this sounds like another politician in Trump’s camp, Chris Christie, when he sort of avoided denying he knew about the lane closures on the George Washington Bridge. Christie said in a deeply sarcastic tone: “I worked the cones. Unbeknownst to anyone, I was working the cones.” He could have just said, “No. 100 percent not gonna happen.” As for whether it’d be a good move for Punk and WWE, they’d make a lot money together if they did it right. It’s sad that there aren’t exactly a ton of “dream match-ups” for Punk that have developed since he left WWE nearly three years ago. There’s A.J. Styles, of course, but no one else has been booked all that strong. Kevin Owens would be the no. 2 heel on my wish list for Punk, but Owens has been more busy “sports entertaining” by playing sidekick to Chris Jericho’s “The List” bit than he has building a reputation as a badass tough heavyweight championship fighter. For the record, I’d be really surprised if Punk was ready to talk business with WWE at this point, despite what happened with his UFC debut.
