Manchester United have not had a Ballon d’Or winner since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008, with George Best their most recent before that in 1968.
But Neville feels Pogba has the ability to win the award, naming him as the ‘most likely’ candidate of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Solskjaer hinted at a possible midfield partnership between Pogba and Bruno Fernandes earlier this week, suggesting that “we’ve been discussing that as a coaching team, of course, and we are looking forward to it”.
Neville agrees that the pair could strike up a compelling union when the Premier League returns and Pogba is back to full fitness.
‘They could be amazing together if they compromise and work to help each other,’ he said on Twitter.
Pogba could yet leave this summer, with a range of players offered to United in a part-exchange deal.
Real Madrid may use Lucas Vazquez, Alvaro Odriozola and James Rodriguez as makeweights, while Juventus could propose a transfer involving Douglas Costa or Alex Sandro.
The Serie A champions might also appeal to Solskjaer’s desire to sign a right winger by making Federico Bernadeschi available.
Angel di Maria and Julian Draxler have also been mentioned as PSG explore their options, but the belief is that United no longer wish to sell Pogba.
The Frenchman has one year left on an Old Trafford contract that also contains an automatic one-year extension option. United are yet to activate that but can do so at any point to protect their asset and ensure as much of a return as possible on their record signing.
