Eden Hazard has explained why he chose to sign for Chelsea despite offers from Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham.
The 28-year-old swapped French side Lille for Stamford Bridge in 2012 for £32million before establishing himself as one of the best players the Premier League has ever seen.
Hazard is expected to depart Chelsea this summer, having long been linked with a move to Real Madrid but Hazard has revealed how his journey in English football could have been a lot different.
“I had a chance to sign for Manchester United, Man City, Tottenham, but I made the right decision,” Hazard told the Guardian.
“I spoke with the owner and I had Didier Drogba and Joe Cole on the phone telling me this was the best club.”
When asked if he could play for another club in the Premier League, Hazard added: “No chance, no chance. I am a Blue! It means a lot to me. I cannot play for another club in this country.”
The Belgian playmaker insists nothing has been finalised regarding his future, but he conceded lifting the Europa League trophy in Baku would provide a fitting send-off.
Hazard said: “I just want to win the trophy, that is it. It does not matter if I score or I do not score. If it is my last game, I hope to bring the trophy.
“Would it be the perfect farewell? Yes.”
