Scholes reveals what shocked him about Man Utd buying Fernandes

Paul Scholes was surprised that no other clubs came in for Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer window after the Portuguese midfielder’s impressive start to life at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old has two goals and two assists in his opening five matches for Man Utd with his latest goal coming in the Red Devils’ 5-0 victory over Club Brugge on Thursday night.

And Scholes has been so impressed by Man Utd’s new signing that he has compared him to Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne.

“Everything so far,” Scholes said when asked what has impressed him about Fernandes so far.

“Creativity as we said. Awareness on the pitch. Before the ball comes he knows what’s happening. He’s sensational.  More often than not he makes the right pass.

“He’s got goals in him. you just wonder why nobody else came in for him or why we didn’t get him in the summer.

“We say is he a no10 or no8 and when I I think of him the only other player I can think of is Kevin De Bruyne at Manchester City.

“He [De Bruyne] is the best player in the Premier League but Fernandes is right up there.”
