The Sun guess at eight ‘flops’ Chelsea will sell in the summer

The future of eight Chelsea stars is in doubt as Frank Lampard looks to rebuild his squad in the summer, according to The Sun.

The 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich, which highlighted the weakness of the Premier League this season, also showed how far away the Blues are from being a real force to contend with in Europe’s showcase competition.

The humbling defeat illustrated that Chelsea need an upgrade in many areas of the pitch, but also showed that Lampard can build his team around the likes of Mateo Kovacic and teenage sensation Reece James.

And The Sun claim Chelsea ‘are set to axe eight stars’, but made a couple of glaring omissions.

Left-backs Emerson and Marcos Alonso are thought to be surplus to requirements, with Lampard reticent to include either in the team when playing a back four.

Outcast keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and Kurt Zouma are on the list along with Ross Barkley and ageing wingers Pedro and Willian, with the latter clashing with the Chelsea board in contract negotiations.

The most surprising inclusion is perhaps Jorginho, who has had a very solid season after a difficult first campaign under Maurizio Sarri.

But neither Olivier Giroud, who’s out of contract at the end of the season, or Michy Batshuayi, who’s been roundly criticised for recent performances, was included in their list of eight.

Full list: Emerson; Marcos Alonso; Kepa Arrizabalaga; Kurt Zouma; Ross Barkley; Pedro; Willian; Jorginho
