This Trans Woman From Malda Will Finally Tie Knot After A Six-Year-Long Struggle

The wait is over for Jaya, who is set to begin a new life with Raju. What makes their union remarkable is that Jaya is a transgender and it will be the first such marriage in North Bengal after the Supreme Court verdict on IPC Section 377.

Jaya and Raju, who have been in a relationship for six years, placed their application before the marriage registrar on Tuesday and expect to get their certificate within a month.

However, the journey was never easy for Jaya, who was born ‘Joy’ into a farmer’s family in South Dinajpur’s Belbari village.
