Marseille must sell striker Michy Batshuayi this month in order to not face punishment from French football financial watchdog the DNCG, including possible automatic relegation.
They need to raise €40m and will therefore be forced to sell the Belgian international in the month of June.
Tottenham Hotspur currently lead the race for the Belgian, according to La Provence and RMC.
Spurs remain in pole, despite the fact that certain members of their board are querying about agreeing to OM’s €40m price tag.
The player has already rejected concrete advances from West Ham United, with Chelsea also interested in his services.
Anyway, the clock is running down on this situation. Tottenham may look to hold Marseille to ransom, pushing the price down, which would force OM to sell more than just Batshuayi (Nkoudou & Mendy are the most bankable aside for Michy).
The only hope for West Ham is that nobody makes a bid between now and the end of the June, which would force OM to sell Batshuayi to the Hammers, against Batshuayi’s will.
It is funny and possible, because that is exactly what happened to Dimitri Payet last summer…
