Pochettino offers downbeat assessment of Spurs new boy

Mauricio Pochettino says Giovani Lo Celso remains a long way from being available for Tottenham.

Lo Celso moved to Spurs on deadline day on loan from Real Betis, with the Champions League runners-up retaining an option to buy the Argentina playmaker.

But Lo Celso is not ready to introduce himself to the Premier League just yet and Pochettino believes Spurs may have to wait for the 23-year-old.

“Lo Celso is a situation that is not going to be easy,” Pochettino said at his press conference to preview the clash with Newcastle on Sunday

“He was in extended holidays after the Copa America, he didn’t have a proper pre-season and didn’t train much. Then signed for us after a week without training.

“He’s training well but is so far away from what we expect from him. We need to give him time and we won’t expect too much from him.”
