Jamie Carragher thinks Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could “do worse than share a private call with Steven Gerrard” after a poor run of form.
Last season the Reds’ full-backs contributed 25 assists between them, so far Andy Robertson has five and Alexander-Arnold has two.
The England right-back had Covid-19 at the start of the season and appears to have suffered the most, looking short of confidence.

And Carragher reckons Gerrard would be able to give advice after going through his own dip during his breakthrough years at Anfield.
“We too easily forget that Trent Alexander-Arnold is only 22,” Carragher wrote in the Daily Telegraph.
“Trent could do worse than share a private call with Steven Gerrard. I remember well how Stevie overcame a slight dip after his first initial breakthrough into the first team, guided back to his best. It happens.”
Meanwhile, another former Liverpool player, Dominic Matteo, reckons Jurgen Klopp will hold a chat with the England international about his positional play.
“I don’t think Trent has been poor enough to be left out,” Matteo told Stadium Astro.
“Neco Williams is a good young player and he’s had some opportunities. He will get more opportunities, but Trent is a good player. It’s just a conversation about his positional play.
“I think Trent is probably one of the best full-backs in world football – the awards he has won and everything he has achieved. But, I still think there is a place for him to improve on his defending.
“If that is where you are going to play, as a right-back, then you have to be able to defend as well.”
And Alexander-Arnold is far from alone in being singled out for criticism with Divock Origi picked out by Graeme Souness for his finishing.
The best chance of their defeat to Burnley fell to Origi and Souness thinks anyone else in the team would’ve scored.
“Anyone but him really,” Souness said on Sky Sports. “I know he’s got some important goals for Liverpool but I said to you ‘he’s not going to score here’.
“His first and second touches are great, has time to open his body up and he’s missed it.
“You can say six inches lower or six inches left but it isn’t, it doesn’t hit the back of the net. It’s a bad miss.”
