Sancho opens up on ‘very difficult’ season amid Man Utd reports

Jadon Sancho says he is “raring to go” and improve his performances after Borussia Dortmund returned from their winter break.

The England international managed 17 goals and 16 assists last season but has struggled to replicate those numbers this term, contributing two goals and five assists.

Some have wondered whether his dip in performance has been due to the speculation that Manchester United wanted to buy him in the summer.

But whatever the reason, Sancho is back from the winter break and has already hit the ground running.

Sancho scored in their 2-0 victory over Wolfsburg on January 3 before doubling his account for the season in their latest victory over RB Leipzig on Saturday.

“Obviously this season has been very difficult for me personally,” Sancho told Dortmund’s official website. “So I knew when I went away, I just focused on my game and came back raring to go.

“I’m working hard every day in training and on the pitch so I’m just happy to get my goals and assists.”

After their match against Leipzig, Dortmund’s interim boss Edin Terzic was convinced Sancho was starting to hit his best form again.

“It’s just small adjustments,” Terzic told ESPN. “Sometimes you have to accelerate on your first touch, don’t get the opponent into situations where he can create two-vs-ones.

“We spoke a lot but Jadon was always doing his best in the last weeks and months, but sometimes it’s like that.

“Players are not always performing on this level. He knew that. He stayed hungry and we tried to support him as a team. We tried to support him individually. It worked out well in the last three games. He scored three goals, and now three assists also. He’s in a good way to get into his best form.”
