The mainstream media coverage of the controversy surrounding the upcoming Crown Jewel pay-per-view in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia continues, as WWE was once again the subject of parody and coverage from John Oliver on his HBO program, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
For the second week in a row, Oliver covered WWE’s relationship with Saudi Arabia on his program, talking about the rumors that John Cena will not be wrestling on the show. They also played a clip of The Undertaker’s promo from SmackDown 1000 and the crowd booing when he said “Crown Jewel.”
“I think the WWE itself just turned heel,” Oliver said. “Do you know how clearly deeply bad something has to be to get wrestling fans to boo a wrestling event at a wrestling event?”
