Liverpool and Roma in talks over £15m defender deal

Dejan Lovren is edging closer to a Liverpool exit after the Reds opened talks with Roma over the sale of the centre-back.

The Croatia defender has been left out of Liverpool’s squad for Wednesday night’s UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea, with the club putting his absence down to illness.

But widespread reports claim Liverpool are discussing with Roma a £15million deal that would see Lovren end his career at Anfield after five years.

Lovren is Jurgen Klopp’s fourth-choice centre-back and failed to make the bench on Friday night when Liverpool began their Premier League season at home against Norwich.

The 30-year-old is said to be resigned to his fate and ready to leave the club he joined from Southampton for £20million in 2o14.

Though AC Milan are also credited with an interest in Lovren, it seems Roma have intensified their efforts to land the World Cup finalist.
