Chelsea receive enquiry from Villa for former loan star

Aston Villa want to bring their former loan star Tammy Abraham back to Villa Park and have made an enquiry with Chelsea, according to reports.

Abraham returned to Chelsea last summer after a productive loan spell with Villa. His 25 goals in 37 league games helped Villa gain promotion to the Premier League.

The striker was summoned back to Stamford Bridge for the start of the 2019-20 season, and he repaid the faith shown in him by the club whose academy ranks he rose through.

MAILBOX: It would be ‘transfer window suicide’ if Man Utd didn’t sign £185m duo

With 18 goals in all competitions last season, Abraham was Chelsea’s top scorer in 2019-20. However, the arrival of Timo Werner has added competition for his place.

Amid those doubts over how much first team action Abraham will get next season, the Daily Mail claim Aston Villa have asked Chelsea if he would be available again.

Villa are keen to sign a striker this summer, with club record signing Wesley still out with an ACL injury. However, it looks like they will be unsuccessful in their attempts to re-sign Abraham.

The Daily Mail add that Abraham wants to stay and fight for his place at Chelsea. Having proven himself in the Premier League last season, he wants to do so again.

Abraham only signed a contract extension back in July, showing the club’s belief in him. However, reports since emerged claiming Frank Lampard was unsure if he would be able to replicate his form from last season.

It now appears that Abraham wants to send a definitive message about his credentials next season.
