Deflated ex-Spurs man makes prediction for Nuno’s first season

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara can only see the club aiming to finish in the top six this season “unless there’s a big overhaul”.

There’s a lot of uncertainty around the club with fans unsure if Harry Kane will remain this season, while chairman Daniel Levy is yet to sign any new players.

New Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo says he has been told to count on having Kane around next season, but Gareth Bale will not be returning.

Seven players to move for £20m-plus with only EFL experience

Nuno came into the job 72 days after Jose Mourinho was sacked amid a chaotic recruitment process that saw Spurs go through an extensive list of candidates.

Erik Ten Hag, Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte all held talks, Paulo Fonseca was about to get the job until Gennaro Gattuso was lined up, only to be ditched after a negative fan reaction.

That ended up with the former Wolves boss, who was clearly not first choice, being appointed earlier this month.

And O’Hara – who played 56 times for Tottenham – has little faith Spurs can aim for anything more than a top-six finish this campaign.

On Spurs target for next season, O’Hara told talkSPORT: “Top six. I think a lot of Spurs fans will agree with me, unless there’s a big overhaul.

“I like Nuno as a manager. He did a great job at Wolves, played some great football. The 3-4-3 got the best out of a lot of players and we saw the emergence of some great players like Ruben Neves. I’m excited to see what he can do at a really big club like Spurs.

“What I’m worried about is that the squad is just going to be the same. I can’t see there being a revamp.

“There’s this whole thing about Harry Kane, will he stay or will he go but my biggest concern is the players we’re still going to be left with.

“I’ve talked about this massive rebuild but I just can’t see it happening. Pre-season has already started, Spurs aren’t going to be spending a lot of money, the Harry Kane situation will rumble on so that money’s not going to be available for a while.

“I think Nuno will get decent results with this team but they won’t do anything special.

“The rest of the team needs revamping. We need new midfielders, new wingers, we need a new back four and could probably do with a new goalkeeper because Hugo Lloris is getting older.”

Ric Flair Claims That He Is Medically Cleared Ahead Of WWE Crown Jewel

In news that will excite some fans and scare others, Ric Flair has claimed that he is now medically cleared for action ahead of WWE Crown Jewel.

The Nature Boy was a guest on the first-ever episode of Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast and during his conversation with the WWE commentator, Flair revealed he has actually been medically cleared.

“I’ve been cleared, by the way, Corey,” Flair said. “That’s a secret, I’ve been cleared. I’ve got a medical release. So, never, ever forget who the dirtiest player in the game is, man. I’ll be equipped and ready, in the words of Pedro Morales, for any kind of action!”

While Flair does have very poor medical history recently, WWE has been teasing the idea of him getting physical with Hulk Hogan, and with this news, there is a possible chance we could see a bump from Flair today.

WWE Confirms Brock Lesnar & “Many, Many Surprises” for Smackdown

We already know that tonight’s edition of WWE Friday Night Smackdown on FOX will be one of the most unpredictable shows that the company has put on in quite some time, due to the majority of the roster and crew being stranded in Saudi Arabia following Crown Jewel.

Tonight’s show has been completely rewritten from the ground up, and every previously announced segment has been scrapped. We’ve got a brand new, one-time commentary team confirmed, and as reported some of the NXT roster has been flown in to supplement the broadcast.

WWE has now also confirmed that the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar will be appearing on the show. The WWE Champion was able to get out of Riyadh on a private jet following Crown Jewel, as was Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair.

They are also teasing “many, many surprises”, which at this point has to be true since the women’s division and 3-4 male Superstars are the only people left from Smackdown currently in North American.

An institution in fighting for decades, Cicero Stadium is conveniently located 8 miles from downtown Chicago and very close to the Pink Line. You can get to it from both Interstate Highways 290 and 55.

Mauro Ranallo breaks the news that The Undisputed Era has been beaten up by The Club backstage. AJ Styles, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows enter the arena. Styles says The Club is “bringing the war” to NXT. Styles then says all the champions are hurt. He then says its not just phenomenal, its undisputed. Ciampa comes out.

Ciampa welcomes Styles, Gallows & Anderson to the “main roster.” Ciampa says NXT is “the show” and “Daddy’s home.” Styles says they could take out Ciampa, so Keith Lee & Matt Riddle join Ciampa on the entry ramp. Ciampa says they’re going to war with The Club. Styles says “You’re on.”

First Match: Pete Dunne vs. Damian Priest

Both men counter each other’s finishers to start. They duck each other’s kicks and punches. They stare each other down as we head to commercial.

Priest dominates Dunne during the commercial. When the come back from the commercial, Priest maintains his dominance. Priest keeps Dunne grounded with stiff strikes. Dunne fights back with a Kimura Lock. Dunne hits X-Plex. Dunne chops away on Priest’s chest. Dunne flips off the turnbuckle and hits an enzuigiri. Dunne hits a dropkick to the knee. Dunne counters a German Suplex. Dunne hits a huge kick. Priest retreats from the ring. Dunne hits a Triangle Moonsault.

Priest fights off Dunne. Dunne backflips off the steel steps. Priest chokeslams Dunne on the apron. Priest climbs the top rope. Dunne counters with a big punch. Dunne hits a Liger Bomb for a nearfall. Dunne stamps on both of Priest’s hands. Priest fights back with a bell clap and a head kick. Dunne retreats from the ring. Priest does a step up Tope Con Hiro. Both men are down on the outside, as we head to commercial.

Back from commercial and both guys are swinging for the fences. Each guy lands a stiff punch and they both collapse. Dunne hits a headbutt. Priest hits a lariat. Dunne counters South of Heaven. Dunne gets on the top rope. Priest recovers and hits a Splash Mountain Powerbomb for a nearfall.

Dunne fights back and stretches Priest’s fingers. Dunne hits a low blow. Dunne breaks Priest’s fingers and locks in an armbar for the submission.

WINNER: Pete Dunne

After the match, Killian Dane attacked Pete Dunne. Priest starts attacking Dunne, but Dane headbutts Priest out of the ring. Dane hits a Vader Bomb on Dunne. Dane then attacks Priest on the outside. Dane sends Priest into the steel steps. Dane hits a cannonball on Priest. Dane leaves the arena.

Hard hitting, back and forth affair. Alexander & Edwards trade endless strikes. They fight out of the ring, and then back into the ring. Edwards gets a nearfall off of a Tiger Driver. Page distracts Edwards. Alexander rolls up Edwards with a Jackknife Pin for the win in 9:34.

WINNER: Josh Alexander

After the match, Page & Alexander beat up Edwards, but Tess Blanchard runs them off. Backstage, Alexander & Page bemoan Tessa getting involved in the tag division. Blanchard will face Page tonight.

Kylie Rae vs. Cassandra Golden

Cassandra Golden uses her strength to dominate early. Kylie fights back and hits the Kylie Special for a nearfall. Kylie hits a cannonball, a legsweep and transitions into an STF for the submission.

John Cena On Why Fans Make It Impossible To Create A New Top Star; And Why That’s Okay

This week’s all new episode of WWE After The Bell with host Corey Graves features a sit-down interview with 16-time world champion John Cena, who had the rare chance to share his candid thoughts about the current landscape of professional wrestling.

During the interview, Cena was asked what he believes the current WWE landscape needs, and discussed why modern wrestling fans make it incredibly difficult to find a new Rock or Hogan level megastar.

“It needs what I’m not sure it can produce. The crowd is so mixed that if the company puts its faith behind an individual, the knee jerk reaction of the audience – even if they liked the guy last week – is to say, ‘F*** you, you’re not gonna tell me who I like!’ The audience is also tipping the scales of this not being able to happen. Universal popularity will never happen, because someone will see it, and get on to it and be like, ‘He seems to be getting popular, let’s stop this right now.’ I’ve seen it happen with guys who were really darlings of that underground crew, who make it, and as soon as they make it the rug gets pulled out from under them.”

Despite this, Cena admits that his perspective is not necessary law – only that it’s the psychology he’s comfortable with because of his personal WWE experience. He also believes it’s perfectly fine with there being what he calls a “segmented” audience, as it can open the door for something to break through creatively.

“When I say there’s no one person at the front, that’s also not bad. I think the business is reaching farther than ever, and will continue to reach farther than ever. Although I’m comfortable in the environment I just explained, maybe we’ve gone into a different thing and I’m just romanticizing those moments that I enjoyed. I think we’re fine with a segmented group of performers. You don’t have one person to go see. If you go to an NXT show, you go to see 8 or 9 people. I don’t think there’s ever been more potential under one roof.”

“I think the best scenario – and take it from a guy who’s done pretty well for himself off this scenario – when they tell you ‘I don’t know what we want tonight’, that’s when the rap guy was born. That’s when things like the U.S. Challenge were born. When they don’t know what they want, they’re giving you the freedom to create. Oh my god, it’s the best! You can now walk into imagination land and do whatever you want. But once again that takes being brave, and doing stupid things and hoping they get over. And maybe they will, and maybe you can wear wristbands when you’re 43.”

WWE NXT ratings up for Kross vs. Gargano title match

Last night’s NXT averaged 705,000 viewers on the USA Network, up 7.8 percent from the previous week’s Great American Bash episode.

It’s the best viewership for NXT since May 4.

The episode was headlined by Karrion Kross defending his NXT Championship against Johnny Gargano, with Samoa Joe serving as the special guest referee for the match.

In the 18-49 demo, NXT drew a 0.19 rating, up 5.6 percent from last week. NXT averaged 245,000 viewers in 18-49 last night. That’s up from the 232,000 viewers it averaged in the category last week.

This tied NXT’s highest rating in the 18-49 demo since the April 27 episode, when it did a 0.22. The number was driven by the male audience, with last night’s episode up 10.6 percent with men 18-49. The show was down 0.4 percent with women 18-49.

Last night’s NXT went against the MLB All-Star Game, which averaged 8.237 million viewers on Fox.

Year-over-year, NXT was up 11.7 percent in viewership as compared to this week last year. It was up 35.7 percent in the 18-49 demo.

Reigns & Usos vs. Edge & Mysterios set for next WWE SmackDown

Roman Reigns and Edge are set to face off in six-man tag team action on SmackDown’s go-home show for Money in the Bank.

On this week’s Talking Smack, it was announced that Reigns & The Usos vs. Edge, Rey Mysterio & Dominik Mysterio will take place on next Friday’s episode of SmackDown. The match will be the final build to Reigns defending his Universal Championship against Edge at Money in the Bank.

The Mysterios came to Edge’s aid by attacking The Usos during Edge’s brawl with Reigns on last night’s SmackDown. Reigns had told The Usos to stay in the back and that he wanted to handle things on his own. But The Usos said they felt like Reigns was being set up for a trap and came out to the ring without Reigns’ permission.

After The Usos and Mysterios got involved, Reigns got away during the brawl. He watched on from the ramp as Edge and The Mysterios took out The Usos. Reigns then headed to the back as the show was going off the air.

Rey & Dominik Mysterio are the SmackDown Tag Team Champions.

Jimmy Uso was on last night’s SmackDown despite his DUI arrest from earlier this week.
