West Ham and Villa to compete for Guinean international’s signature

West Ham United and Aston Villa are rumoured to both be interested in BSC Young Boys defender Ali Camara.

The 23-year-old made 39 appearances in all competitions for the Swiss side and was influential in helping his side win the league title.

The Guinean’s performances have attracted interest from a number of clubs, with the Hammers and Villians apparently at the front of the queue for the 23-year-old’s signature, according to SportWitness.

Young Boys announced that Camara had signed a contract extension last month, keeping him at the club until 2024.

But interest from the Premier League could overlook his contract, and the club could sell him for the right price.

However, it is believed that interest from both clubs aforementioned is not concrete, and contact hasn’t been made for the 23-year-old.

He joined Young Boys from Israeli side Hapoel Ra’anana in 2018.

Dean Smith has been a busy man so far in the transfer window, bringing Emi Buendia to Villa Park, despite interest from Arsenal for the Argentine.

Elsewhere, Villa had a £25million bid for Arsenal starlet Emile Smith Rowe rejected and are interested in Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse.

The future of star man Jack Grealish is unclear, with the signing of Buendia and bid for Smith Rowe indicating that he could leave Villa.

Grealish will be concentrating on England, however, and he has said that he is ‘desperate’ to play against Scotland.

The attacking midfielder was left on the bench against Croatia as Raheem Sterling scored the winning goal at Wembley.

Speaking ahead of the clash against Steve Clarke’s men, Grealish told talkSPORT: “I’m so desperate to get on the pitch and prove to people just how good I am.

“These are the type of games that I thrive off.

“Not even just in this tournament, I’ve made a name for myself (in other big games) during my career. I’m desperate to be involved.

“But the main thing is the team get the three points and carry on our good start.”

Pundit Jermaine Jenas believes Grealish should feature on Friday.

The former Spurs man said: “It’s a long tournament and I’d bring Grealish in, 100 per cent.”

Tomori completes permanent transfer from Chelsea to Milan

Fikayo Tomori has completed a permanent move from Chelsea to AC Milan after a successful loan spell in Italy.

The 23-year-old joined the Serie A club in January after struggling for first-team opportunities during the first half of last season.

Milan had the option to buy Tomori for a £25million fee at the conclusion of his loan and that has been exercised after he played 22 times and helped them qualify for the Champions League during the 2020-21 campaign.

AC Milan legend Baresi, who is now their Vice-President, said back in March that Tomori could become a “great champion” of the club in the future.

He said: “We’ll do everything to sign him on a permanent deal.

“Two months are remaining until the end of the season, and it’s not only up to Milan.

“Tomori is imposing himself with talent and determination. He has shown no fear to play in a new league. Potentially, he can become a great champion. I hope he lives up to expectations.”

And now a four-year deal has been agreed at San Siro for the defender, who has made one appearance for England but missed out on the squad for this summer’s European Championships.

Tomori progressed through the Chelsea academy and made his debut for the Blues at the end of the 2015-16 season, but spent much of the next few years on loan with spells at Brighton, Hull and Derby.

It was at the latter where the centre-back linked up with Frank Lampard, who handed the youngster more opportunities in the Premier League once he had taken over at Stamford Bridge.

An England call-up followed and Tomori earned his solitary cap in a Euro 2020 qualifier against Kosovo in November, 2019.

Chances proved to be few and far between after the coronavirus pandemic and one of Lampard’s final acts as Chelsea manager was to allow the defender – who made 27 appearances for the Blues – to join AC Milan on loan for the second half of last season, which has now been turned into a permanent move.

Eriksen to have ‘heart starter’ implant after Denmark collapse

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen is to be fitted with a defibrillator implant, the national team doctor has confirmed.

The 29-year-old Inter Milan midfielder had to be resuscitated on the pitch at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen after slumping to the ground during the first half of his side’s 1-0 Euro 2020 Group B defeat to Finland on Saturday evening.

Eriksen regained consciousness before being taken to hospital, where medics continue to work to identify what caused his cardiac arrest and have chosen to fit an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

Panini XI: At the Euros but not in the album

Providing an update on his status on Thursday, Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen said: “After Christian has been through different heart examinations it has been decided that he should have an ICD (heart starter).

“This device is necessary after cardiac attack due to rhythm disturbances.

“Christian has accepted the solution and the plan has moreover been confirmed by specialists nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment.

“We encourage everybody to give Christian and his family peace and privacy (in) the following time.”

The football world was stunned as events unfolded in front of millions on television on Saturday, and Eriksen thanked those who had sent messages of support in an Instagram post on Tuesday in which he said he was “fine – under the circumstances”.

His team-mates chose to complete the Finland game later on Saturday evening having been offered the option to return the following day.

Denmark have this week been preparing for their second group fixture against Belgium and will return to the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen for that match on Thursday night.

Captain Simon Kjaer believes the game will give Denmark “peace in our minds” as they “play for Christian”.

In a statement thanking everyone for their support, Kjaer said: “It has been some very special days, where football has not been the most important thing.

“A shock, that will be part of me – part of all of us – forever. The only thing that is important and really matters, is that Christian is OK.

“I am proud of how we reacted as a team and how we stood together in these difficult times. I am touched and grateful for all of the support.

“Today, we will enter the pitch against Belgium with Christian in our hearts and thoughts. It gives us peace in our minds, which allows us to focus on the game of football.

“We will play for Christian, and as always for all of Denmark. This is the greatest motivation for us all.”

Meanwhile, professor Sanjay Sharma, who chairs the Football Association’s expert cardiac consensus group, has expressed strong doubts over Eriksen playing professionally again after Saturday’s incident and told the PA news agency: “In the UK we’d be very strict about it.”

Daley Blind, a close friend and former Ajax team-mate of Eriksen, has played in Holland with an ICD fitted since twice experiencing cardiac symptoms during matches in 2019 and 2020. Blind was visibly emotional after he was substituted during Holland’s win over Ukraine, the day after Eriksen’s collapse.

Real to ‘exploit’ Arsenal by offering Odegaard in swap deal for starlet

Real Madrid are considering offering Martin Odegaard to Arsenal in exchange for Emile Smith Rowe, according to reports.

The Mail have suggested that Real could try and ‘exploit’ the Gunners with a swap deal involving Smith Rowe and Odegaard, who has recently returned to the Spanish giants following a loan spell at the Emirates.

It has been widely reported that Arsenal are looking to permanently sign Odegaard after his loan, but the Norweigian’s availability and asking price are both up for debate.

Panini XI: At the Euros but not in the album

It has been rumoured that Real could want up to £50million for the playmaker.

Smith Rowe has two years left on his current contract and is close to signing a new deal after a breakthrough season at the north London club, making 33 appearances in all competitions.

The 20-year-old has also attracted interest from Aston Villa, who had a £25m bid instantly rejected for the attacking midfielder.

Villa have already beaten the Gunners to the signing of Emi Buendia from Norwich City this summer, and are clearly still looking to bolster their midfield options.

Arsenal are in for a busy summer, with many players being linked with a move away from the club as Arteta looks set to overhaul the squad after a disappointing 2020-21 campaign.

The Gunners have also been linked with Leicester City midfielder James Maddison and could make a move for the 24-year-old if they are unable to land Odegaard.

Maddison made 31 appearances for Leicester in the league last season, scoring eight goals and registering five assists.

According to reliable football.london journalist Chris Wheatley the Gunners have identified Maddison as a target, but the fee Leicester are likely to demand could be an issue.

Maddison is a homegrown player, which is likely to add more money on to Leicester’s valuation of the midfielder.

Maddison also recently signed a long term contract with FA Cup winners until June 2024 believed to be worth around £95,000 per week.

Chelsea are also interested in Maddison as they look to build on their Champions League success by strengthening their squad ahead of a Premier League title challenge.

The Blues would be interested in the playmaker if Hakim Ziyech was to leave Stamford Bridge who has been linked with a move to Italy with both Napoli and AC Milan said to be interested.

‘Very sensitive’ Liverpool star needs ‘special care’ – former team-mate

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is a “very sensitive guy” who needs “special care” if he is to reach his maximum, according to former team-mate Willi Orban.

Keita started just nine times in all competitions for the Reds last season, his last appearance coming in the Champions League quarter-final first leg tie against Real Madrid, where he was hauled off three minutes before half-time having failed to make an impact.

His £54m move from RB Leipzig has not gone as both club and player would have planned, with Keita flattering to deceive during the Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

Euro 2020: Scotland draw quest, Lewandowski, Spain cruise

But Orban, who played with Keita at Leipzig, thinks there will be something wrong with the Liverpool midfielder’s “environment” if he isn’t performing.

“Naby is a very sensitive guy who has to feel completely comfortable in his environment in order to perform well,” Orban told Goal. “You have to take special care of him, talk to him a lot. He needed breaks from time to time, when he was with us.

“The Premier League is certainly even more demanding in this regard.”

When asked about the most talented player he has played with, Orban added: “Keita with his extraordinary ball control, his dynamism and his finishing. He was just complete.”

Despite his lack of appearances, Jurgen Klopp would prefer to retain the 26-year-old going into next season, citing “stability” as the reason why he has been used so sparingly this campaign.

Speaking about Keita’s future in May, the Liverpool boss said: “It’s a lot of things in this year, it was really tricky.

“We had to change so often and then in the moment you try to go for stability, it’s really like this and that’s what we need.

“You can see now for example, Man Utd – I think the last line played nearly the last 20 games together. Then you can make changes everywhere because you have a proper basis. We never had that.

“Then on top of that, then making two or three changes in midfield just doesn’t work out in football. People say, ‘Try it.’ We would try definitely if we could be not only nearly sure that it could work out, but you need stability in a football team.

“Naby trains really well in the moment, I have to say. He trains really well, like a lot of other players, and looks really good in training. But this year now we need stability.

“We will make changes from time to time definitely, but it’s not like we pick now seven, eight, nine players to change and say, ‘Maybe we can win it like this.’ The long-term future of Naby Keita, from my point of view, is here, yes.”

TV director in charge of Denmark match defends Eriksen footage

TV director Jean-Jacques Amsellem has defended the controversial footage of Christian Eriksen in the aftermath of the Denmark midfielder’s collapse on Saturday.

Eriksen collapsed on Saturday during Denmark’s opening Euro 2020 match with Finland before being treated on the pitch and taken to hospital.

After it was later confirmed the Inter Milan player was stable, his team-mates reportedly agreed to resume the fixture in Copenhagen – although Peter Schmeichel has claimed that was not the case – with Finland claiming a 1-0 win thanks to Joel Pohjanpalo’s 59th-minute goal.

Euro 2020: Scotland draw quest, Lewandowski, Spain cruise

His team-mates formed a shield around the 29-year-old while he received treatment and fans from both sets of countries chanted the name of the midfielder.

The camera shots of Eriksen being resuscitated were followed up by images of his distraught wife, causing outrage from supporters on social media.

Gary Lineker apologised for the BBC’s coverage but explained they were using “host pictures and out of our control”.

Amsellem, who was responsible for the global feed, defended his decision to show certain distressing images.

“As you can imagine there is no handbook for these sorts of things,” Amsellem told L’Equipe.

“There was a slow-motion of the scene where we can see him fall really clearly, but I immediately forced my teams not to focus on him, not to film him anymore!

“With more than 30 cameras in the stadium, we could have continued to do so, but at no point did we go and do close shots on him.

“During all that followed, I actually went at one point to the Danes in tears because it was still necessary to show the distress. We also see the emotion of the Finns, that of the fans, but I do not think that we did anything murky.

“Our producer was in conversations with UEFA. The instructions were clear: we were told not to do close-ups, not to film the cardiac massage, but that there was no problem with filming the surrounding emotion.

“If we do a general wide shot, we don’t show the emotion. That could have been for a long time… but we also have to transmit how it felt in the stadium.

“We showed the sadness and distress of the people, on the side of the players, the staff and the fans. We also saw unity in this moment of great anxiety, it had to be transmitted. I wouldn’t call it voyeurism.

“If someone had told me ‘stick with the wide shot’, I would have. But the most important thing, frankly, is that he is ok.”
