Following the news last week that grassroot sports can return to England, British Triathlon have produced a set of guidelines for clubs, coaches and event organisers to follow. These are designed to ensure each event is as Covid-secure as possible, and safe for participants.

From the 18th July English clubs and coaches can host events for more than six people, providing they follow correct procedures, while in Wales clubs and coaches can organise activities for up to 30 people.
Event organisers in England can apply to British Triathlon for a permit, and permitted events can take place from 25 July, providing they follow procedures.
In a statement British Triathlon CEO Andy Salmon said: “I am delighted that we are able to resume swim, bike, run activity in England over the coming weeks and look forward to supporting clubs and event organisers to deliver safe and exciting events.
“We hope to see a similar relaxation of restrictions in Scotland and Wales in the near future.”

And Neville believes as long as the inconsistency remains, so too will the pressure on Solskjaer and speculation over his future at the club.
He said on The Gary Neville Podcast: “I was glued to the TV from 11.30am, thinking about the game, thinking about the previous week, and you just think: ‘We need a performance here, Ole needs a performance, the club need a performance, players need a performance’.
“They go behind, and I think United deservedly came out on top in the end.
“They’re just so inconsistent. If you think about the last week, the performance against Leipzig, PSG, against Arsenal, in Turkey, they’ve got to get rid of that, it’s up and down.
“It’s a thing that will always put them under pressure as players and a manager. You need consistency, ultimately that’s what a champion needs to be, and at the moment they’re inconsistent.”

Rio Ferdinand is frustrated by the “disrespect” being shown to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and claims Manchester United have had “no conversations” with Mauricio Pochettino over potentially replacing the Norwegian.
Losses to Arsenal and Istanbul Basaksehir ramped up the pressure on Solskjaer, relieved somewhat with a 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

But Pochettino has consistently been linked with United and some reports suggest the Argentinian has been approached amid Solskjaer’s continuing inconsistency at Old Trafford.
But Ferdinand claims it is all pure speculation and has it on good authority there has been nothing “like that going on”.
Speaking on his Instagram story, the United legend said: “It’s a bit disrespectful on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if I’m honest.
“People are touting that Pochettino has been spoken to and stuff.
“I’ve got it under a really, really, really good source that there have been no conversations or anything like that going on.”
Solskjaer used his post-match interview following victory over Everton to voice his frustrations at Premier League scheduling, which saw the fixture at Goodison Park played just three days after their Champions League defeat.
But Ferdinand suggested it was tactic to shift the narrative away from his own struggles, telling BT Sport : “This happens at top clubs. We’ve all been away in, say, Ukraine and then play away in Newcastle in a lunchtime kick-off.
“That’s part and parcel of it. I understand his frustration because we used to moan – you want the league to be a little bit lenient and say, ‘We’ll give you a little bit extra time’.
“But it wasn’t the case and you’ve got to get on with it.

“His frustrations lies in players getting injured, but also, he’s controlled the narrative during that interview.
“He’s talked about what he wanted to talk about and that’s something a lot of the top managers in the past have done.
“It takes away from maybe the other things that were going on before the game, but the result is the be all and end all and he got the result he needed.”

Garry Monk has been sacked as manager of Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday.

A run of four straight league defeats was ended with last week’s 1-0 win against Bournemouth but Saturday’s goalless draw with Millwall at Hillsborough left them 23rd in the table.
And the fixture proved to be the final game in charge for Monk and his coaching staff.
A club statement on Monday evening read: “Sheffield Wednesday have terminated the contracts of manager Garry Monk and his staff with immediate effect.”
Monk joined Wednesday in September 2019, a couple of months after being sacked by Birmingham.
The Owls, who were in the play-off fight at the turn of the year, have managed just seven Championship wins since the start of 2020.
Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri said to the club’s website: “I feel the time is right to make a change and I wish Garry and his team all the best for the future.
“I would like to say thank you for the time and effort Garry and his staff have committed to Sheffield Wednesday.”
The club added that they would be “making no further comment at this time”.
Wednesday are not back in league action until a trip to Preston on November 21.

Everton and West Ham target Martin Braithwaite is free to leave Barcelona in January, according to reports.
The forward spent two seasons in the Championship with Middlesbrough between 2017 and 2019. He signed for them from Toulouse for around £9m, but he only netted nine times in 40 appearances for them.
After a couple of loan spells away, he joined Spanish side Leganes permanently ahead of the 2019/20 campaign. Braithwaite scored eight times in 27 appearances for them in the first half of the season.

This form sparked surprising interest from Barcelona. The European giants activated his £18m release clause and he officially became a Barcelona player in February 2020.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry took to national television on Friday in order to present the Obama administration’s case for war against Syria.

Though Kerry vowed the “mistake of Iraq” was not again taking place, his rhetorical case for war did little to inspire confidence in administration’s framework for war though much to remind potential viewers of when Colin Powell presented the case for war at the U.N. on behalf of the Bush administration a decade ago.

However, as the AP reported on Thursday, Kerry’s case seemed to confirm that though circumstantial evidence exists, nothing in the unclassified report released today by the administration would be considered a “slam dunk”.
In subsequent comments from the president himself at the White House, Obama indicated that though “no final decision” had been made, he said “my military” is looking at a variety of options.
Coinciding with Kerry and Obama’s comments, a new NBS poll shows that nearly 80% of Americans want the White House to bring the decision to engage militarily against Syria to Congress.
To that end, though drastically late to the table in most regards, rumblings among members of Congress signal a changing dynamic in Washington.
Though earlier in the week, Alan Grayson, an outspoken progressive Democrat from Florida admitted to Politico that most members of his party would only “become more vocal about the Syria attacks after they take place,” developments in the last twenty-fours prove that there may yet be a role for the legislative branch to play in stopping—or at least slowing—the Obama administration’s rush to attack Syria.
And even as much of the public challenge against the White House push for war so far has come from the president’s political opponents in the Republican Party, a letter drafted by Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) on Thursday and signed by more than fifty colleagues shows that Obama may not receive full acquiescence from members of his own party in Congress before launching missiles strikes.
Citing the Congress’ constitutional “obligation and power to approve military force,” Lee’s letter “strongly” urges Obama to receive “an affirmative decision” from Congress prior to authorizing any “U.S. military engagement” in what it termed the “complex crisis” in Syria.
“While the ongoing human rights violations and continued loss of life are horrific,” Lee’s letter (pdf) continues, “they should not draw us into an unwise war—especially without adhering to our own constitutional requirements. We strongly support the work within the United Nations Security Council to build international consensus condemning the alleged use of chemical weapons and preparing an appropriate response; we should also the U.N. inspector the space and time necessary to do their jobs, which are so crucial to ensuring accountability.”
A separate letter, sponsored by Rep. Scott Rigell of (R-VA), represents the Republican opposition to rushed intervention in the House, it was also signed by some Democrats.

Comments by Rigell also suggest that events in the UK on Thursday night—where members of Parliament voted down an effort pushed by Prime Minister David Cameron to authorize British involvement in a strike on Syria—are having an impact on the way members of Congress are now viewing the situation.
“This beautiful Capitol is empty largely and yet a vigorous debate took place in the parliament in Britain,” said Rigell in an interview on MSNBC Friday morning. “I find it ironic given the history of our two countries that here we have the president operating—and I say this understanding the seriousness of it—it is not the King’s army. He must come before Congress.”
However, as Republicans like Rigell continued to put the focus on executive authority in what still seems like a partisan attack against a president with whom House GOP members have refused to share almost any common ground with throughout his term, Lee’s language was focused more on the inanity of the policy itself, cautioning against the damage an attack would have not only on U.S. standing in the world, but on the people of Syria and the wider Middle East.
“We must learn the lessons of the past. Lessons from Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and others,” said Congresswoman Lee. “We must recognize that what happens in Syria does not stay in Syria; the implications for the region are dire.”
All of this, however, says little about the deeper issues over the wisdom (or lack thereof) concerning a U.S. attack on Syria, but as Just Foreign Policy’s Robert Naiman writes, the debate in Congress is necessary not only because the Constitution demands it, but because the debate itself “surfaces key information.”
And over all this, as Bob Dreyfuss at The Nation observes—because Obama “doesn’t care about objections from Congress” and Kerry has now laid out the rationale—”it appears that the president of the United States will bomb Syria” despite warnings from all quarters. Dreyfuss writes:
So it seems anyway, and as of this writing, despite the calls for Congressional action and debate, there is no sign from leaders of either party in the House of Representatives that lawmakers will be called back to challenge the president.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the U.S. claims about Syria’s use of chemical weapons are ‘absolutely absurd’ and said that if quality evidence does exist it should be brought to the U.N. Security Council and be debated before the international community.
“If there are data that the chemical weapons have been used, and used specifically by the regular army, this evidence should be submitted to the U.N. Security Council,” said Putin in a joint interview with the Associated Press and Russia’s state Channel 1 television. “And it ought to be convincing. It shouldn’t be based on some rumors and information obtained by special services through some kind of eavesdropping, some conversations and things like that.”
Putin suggested Russia would even consider backing a U.N. resolution against Syria, but warned the U.S. against unilateral action and said his country was readying its response if such an attack were to take place. “We have our ideas about what we will do and how we will do it in case the situation develops toward the use of force or otherwise,” he said.
“We have our plans,” he added, though he did not comment on what they included, saying it was “too early” to discuss broadly or in detail Russia’s potential response to a U.S. attack on Syria.

Putin’s interview comes ahead of the G20 meeting taking place in Russia this week, where heads of state, including President Obama, will be in attendance.
Striking again on the flimsy evidence presented so far by the U.S., Putin referenced the intelligence failures that led to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
“All these arguments turned out to be untenable, but they were used to launch a military action, which many in the U.S. called a mistake. Did we forget about that?” Putin said.

The substitutes rule could yet be amended this season with many managers, especially Jurgen Klopp, furious that the Premier League is the only major league in Europe which does not allow teams to make five changes, with only three subs permitted.
Klopp is not one of the five Premier League managers to have made the maximum number of substitutes in every game this season. Contrastingly, Pep Guardiola has chosen to make an average of only two substitutes per game.

Chelsea are set to do battle with AC Milan over the signing of young Malmo defender Anel Ahmedhodzic, according to reports.
Chelsea signed centre back Thiago Silva in the summer to provide stability in defence.
The player has had a good start to the season and scored in his most recent match against Sheff Utd.

However, his age means Blues officials are having to look at long term replacements.
According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (via Goal), that search has led them to Bosnian centre back Ahmedhodzic.
The report claims that the 21-year-old should be available for around £10 million during the January transfer window.
The player is viewed as one of the best young players in the Swedish top flight and could now step up in his career.
His performances have earned him admirers in London as well as in Milan.

AC Milan retain a strong interest in the player, meaning Chelsea will have to act fast when the next window opens.
If a bidding war starts, the fee could be a lot more than his initial valuation.
Despite this, Ahmedhodzic remains a far cheaper option than Europe’s most well-known young centre backs.
RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano could be the subject of a transfer duel next summer as Man Utd target the player.
Chelsea would also be expected to pay at least £50 million if they wanted to sign Dortmund’s Dan-Axel Zagadou.
That’s left them looking at cheaper alternatives, and Ahmedhodzic could be brought in to provide extra competition in the future.
Manager Frank Lampard can currently call upon Silva, Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen.
Silva and Zouma have been the preferred pairing so far. They have looked more assured than Chelsea’s past defences.
The Blues’ current form means they might well have a chance of challenging for the title this season.
They are fifth in the Premier League table on 15 points.
