As a result of the current Covid-19 pandemic, the Tokyo Olympics have been postponed. The IOC have released a statement saying: “The IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan have concluded that the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in Tokyo must be rescheduled to a date beyond 2020 but not later than summer 2021.“

The president of the Director-General of World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said the Covid-19 pandemic is “accelerating” and that there are more than 375,000 cases now recorded worldwide.
This is the first time the modern Olympic Games have been postponed, although they have been cancelled twice before.
In a statement the Chief Executive of the British Olympic Association, Andy Anson, said: “It is with profound sadness that we accept the postponement, but in all consciousness it is the only decision we can support, in light of the devastating impact COVID-19 is having on our nation, our communities and our families.
“Alongside UK Sport and the BPA, we have consulted with the National Governing Bodies of summer Olympic and Paralympic sports and with athlete representative groups, including our Athletes’ Commissions and the British Athletes’ Commission. It is with their input and support that we have an unanimous view that the impact of COVID-19 on athletes’ training and preparation means their regimes are now compromised irreparably. It is time for them to stop thinking about Tokyo 2020 for now and be home and safe with their families.”

The leaders of the Tokyo games said that “the Olympic Games in Tokyo could stand as a beacon of hope to the world during these troubled times and that the Olympic flame could become the light at the end of the tunnel in which the world finds itself at present. Therefore, it was agreed that the Olympic flame will stay in Japan. It was also agreed that the Games will keep the name Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.”

These four-week “All In” training plans are completely indoor-based and place increased emphasis on yoga, strength, and Mental Training. Each indoor plan offers a different focus – cycling, multisport, cross-training – while incorporating sessions from The Sufferfest yoga and strength training video library.

To help athletes develop essential positive thinking and goal setting skills, each plan also includes sessions from The Sufferfest Mental Toughness Program. Drawing on decades of experience at the highest level of the sport, the plans were designed by the Wahoo Sports Science Team to help athletes improve their fitness while remaining indoors and maintain motivation in the midst of this unprecedented crisis.
“The current pandemic has disrupted every aspect of our daily lives,” said David McQuillen, head of the Wahoo Fitness Sufferfest division. “While all of us at Wahoo Fitness know that there are far more important things than that next workout, we also know that there is comfort, solace, and meaning to be found in exercise. Social distancing and self-Isolation brings with it many challenges for athletes trying to maintain or even improve fitness. Our Sports Science Team developed these comprehensive, four-week plans specifically to help homebound athletes redefine their goals, train responsibly, and use their time inside to get stronger both physically and mentally.”
The new ‘All-In’ plans are structured, progressive, and designed to provide enough training load to allow athletes to stay fit without too much intensity. Each plan offers a different area of focus, and are designed to take the place of outdoor and group activities.

Cyclists can vary the number of rides as well as their strength training level and multisport athletes are given out-of-the-pool strength training plans as well as treadmill alternatives. To help manage so many early season race cancellations, athletes focusing on cross-training can use this time to develop the strength and fitness needed to support their primary athletic goals, while the yoga-focused plan is organised so athletes can gradually ramp into the hard sessions, which is especially important for those who have never done yoga before.
In order to ensure that the plans are accessible to everyone, The Sufferfest is offering new users a free month subscription through the promo code ALLINSUFPLAN.

Ian Wright says he is “confused” by Arsenal’s inability to create chances and score goals this season, admitting he feels for star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal have scored just nine goals in their opening eight Premier League games and Aubameyang has been singled out for criticism having scored just two league goals after signing his new contract in the summer.
Business time: An incredible XI of players who need to talk terms…
And while Wright sympathises with the striker, he claims there was a “telling” sign before Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
“What I saw the other day was Arsenal’s warm-up before the Manchester United game – there was a shooting session down in the corner,” the Gunners icon told the Wrighty’s House podcast.
“We saw nine shots from the main characters – Aubameyang, (Alexandre) Lacazette, all of them – and every single one of them missed. Even though we beat Manchester United, it was telling.
“If I’m being honest, there’s not many chances being created, which is why I feel so unfortunate for Auba.
“It’s just a coincidence that he’s signed his contract at this time and then the suits say, ‘It’s because he’s signed his contract, he’s clocked off’. We’re not creating chances!
“We’re not creating chances but I do not like seeing in a warm-up shooting session, people missing the target, and sloppy shots. All those things make you look into the team and what’s going on.
“I’m confused with what’s going on. It seems like we’ve got a manager who will not tolerate anything other than the best the players have got to give. So I’m really confused at the minute.
“Shot creation, we’re 19th in the Premier League. Goals scored, 13th. Shots on target, 14th. Key passes, 17th. Expected goals, 16th.
“They should be doing everything they can in warm-ups to get into the habit of scoring goals.”

Mark Smith and Matt Stead know all about disappointments. Join them to discover that Chelsea are the only Big Six club without representation on this week’s top ten.
Paris Saint-Germain’s sporting director Leonardo admits the club may have made a mistake in allowing Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva to move to the Premier League.
Cavani – PSG’s all-time top goalscorer with 200 goals – moved to Manchester United on transfer deadline day, while Thiago Silva switched Paris for London in August, joining Chelsea.
Business time: An incredible XI of players who need to talk terms…
Both club legends were allowed to leave for free and the Ligue 1 giants have struggled without the duo, losing to both United and RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
And Leonardo has suggested that the French side may have acted too rashly over the summer.
The PSG sporting director said: “At one moment, we have to say ‘what are we going to do’?
“We spoke clearly with them. It was a moment where we could not give them exactly what they wanted. It was a financial and generational problem.
“It was the moment to count on Marquinhos and Kimpembe. The decisions were difficult to take. Aside from that, we could have made a mistake.”

Mason Greenwood has been treated unfairly after he breached coronavirus regulations and should be judged on his football ability, says Andy Cole.
Greenwood scored 17 goals in a superb breakout campaign in 2019-20, earning him a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
FEATURE: Man Utd shouldn’t lose sleep over Greenwood’s development
But he has struggled to replicate that form at the start of this season and was left out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad for the 3-1 win at Everton on Saturday.
The teenager was roundly criticised for breaking coronavirus protocols with Phil Foden in September and has been out of sorts since, with his attitude at United also called into question.
And Cole doesn’t believe much of the criticism is just and has urged the media to get off his back to allow him to focus on his football.
“He’s a star in the making. If he gets his head right then he’s definitely a star in the making. One hundred per cent,” the United legend told The Daily Mirror.
“I’m hoping he will come through this. What’s really upset me through this situation is I’m not sure why everyone keeps hounding him the way they do.
“He’s a baby. If you don’t make mistakes when you’re a baby, when do you make your mistakes? In your 50s? He’s a boy and he’s made mistakes, he’s held his hands up, let him go out there and play his football.

“Now judge him on his football because if we’re judging him as an 18-year-old boy against what the average 18-year-old gets up to then we’ll see what they all get up to.
“Judge him on his ability, he’s made a mistake and apologised and now, please, just let him play his football now. They’ve left Foden alone, but let’s continue to hammer Greenwood. It’s just not right.
“He’s got so much to his game, he can go both sides, he can score goals and do everything. I’m sure that he can come through this.”

Georginio Wijnaldum was tight-lipped and tetchy when asked about negotiations with Liverpool over a new contract at the club.

The Dutch star’s deal expires at the end of the season and he is yet to commit to an extension.
He is free to negotiate with other clubs in January meaning Jurgen Klopp faces losing the midfielder for free in the summer.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a move to Barcelona to team up with former Netherland boss Ronald Koeman.
When asked about an update on the contract situation Wijnaldum claimed it’s Liverpool who should made to answer the question.
“I can’t say anything about that,” the midfielder told Dutch publication Het Parool. “Just ask Liverpool those questions. Don’t they answer?
“I cannot say anything about it, including whether or not there is talk of a new contract between me and Liverpool. Sorry.”
Liverpool sit third in the Premier League after their 1-1 draw with Manchester City and Wijnaldum insists “the group wants more”.
“We knew we might not be at the top after this weekend – going to Manchester City is just a tough game,” he said when asked about the game against Pep Guardiola’s side.
“But take it from me: we are just as eager at Liverpool, you know. The group wants more, and the manager is still pushing us.”
