PSG pushing to sign £25m-rated Arsenal full-back

Paris Saint-Germain are said to have bid around £25 million for Hector Bellerin, according to reports.

It is unknown at this time if Arsenal will accept this offer, as they are currently mulling over the bid.

FourFourTwo adds that Mikel Arteta would prefer to keep Bellerin at the club, but they may have to sell so he can pursue other targets.

MEDIAWATCH: Arsenal are not Barca 2011 and won’t win title next season

It is well known that Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey is one of Arteta’s main targets this summer. But to enable them to trigger his release clause of £44.5m, Arsenal may have to let a few players leave first.

Arsenal are not short of options at right-back. They have Cedric Soares, who recently returned on a permanent deal. Ainsley Maitland-Niles also remains at the club, despite being the subject of interest from Wolves.

Wolves reportedly offered Arsenal around £20m to sign Maitland-Niles, but talks have since broken down.

The Gunners may be more willing to let Bellerin go, with the fee in question being greater than for the England youngster.

Bellerin has been a regular in the Arsenal side ever since breaking into the team in 2014/15. But his number of appearances have decreased in the last two seasons due to injury.

Maitland-Niles (23) is two years younger than Bellerin, and Arteta may see him as a ready-made replacement for the Spaniard as his new first-choice right-back.

Arsenal have already been very busy in this window. On Tuesday they completed the purchase of Gabriel Magalhaes from Lille, with the centre-back joined in a deal worth around £27 million.

Gabriel was the club’s fourth summer signing after Willian, Pablo Mari and Cedric Soares all moved to the Emirates earlier in the window.

West Brom have £12m bid accepted for West Ham youngster

West Brom have had a £12 million bid accepted for Grady Diangana, according to reports from the Telegraph.

Slaven Bilic will have been keen to secure the services of Diangana, who impressed while on loan with West Brom last term.

The winger joined on a season-long loan deal from the Hammers in August 2019 and went onto play a pivotal role as the Baggies were promoted back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

Diangana played in 30 of West Brom’s 46 Championship outings. He provided eight goals and a further seven assists to finish the season as his side’s joint third top scorer behind Charlie Austin and Hal Robson-Kanu.

It is somewhat surprising that West Ham appear to be so willing to let Diangana leave. It was expected that the winger would receive a chance in the Hammers first team this season.

Diangana has even been impressing during pre-season for the East London side. He recently set up a goal in one friendly and their record signing, Sebastien Haller, was quick to praise the youngster.

He told the Birmingham Mail: “It’s nice for us to have a kind of player like Grady. Everyone knows the quality he has and then he went on loan to West Brom and everyone knows he performed pretty well.

“We are all happy to have him here and we are going to try to use his quality and strength, me most of all.”

With West Brom’s deal for Diangana nearing completion, their Premier League squad is coming together well ahead of the new season.

The England U21 international will be Bilic’s 2nd signing of the summer after Matheus Pereira’s loan deal was made permanent from Sporting Lisbon.

Man Utd star Fernandes hits back at thinly veiled Mourinho jibe

Bruno Fernandes has hit back at Jose Mourinho, who implied that he was only able to score as much as he did last season because Man Utd are given so many penalties.

The Portuguese midfielder joined Manchester United in January 2020 and he immediately hit the ground running.

In 22 appearances for the Red Devils, the 25-year-old scored 12 and assisted another eight to guide his new team into the Champions League.

F365 Says: Mourinho is Costner in Tottenham’s Amazon Waterworld

But the Tottenham boss has attempted to throw cold water on the hype surrounding Fernandes. In July, the former Man Utd manager told Portuguese outlet, Record, that: “Bruno came in, was fit, played very well, improved the United team and also proved to be a great penalty taker, one of the best in the world, because he had about 20 to score.”

In the 2019/20 campaign, Man Utd set a new record for penalties awarded in a single season. United were given 14 penalties last season.

This beats the previous record of 13 that was held by Leicester City and Crystal Palace in 2015/16 and 2004/05 respectively. Fernandes converted eight of United’s 14 spot-kicks last term.

The midfielder has now hit back at Mourinho’s comments in an interview with Portuguese publisher, A Bola.

Fernandes said: “I honestly did not feel stung. I feel that I am a good penalty taker and nothing more, I understand, but what I take from his [Mourinho’s] words because I’m a very positive person, is that he said I hit penalties well.

“It is a reality, not least since I arrived at Manchester United.

“I hear people saying, ‘ah, he only scores from penalty kicks’ but a little while ago, I saw the statistics and, except for penalties, only Kevin De Bruyne has a higher involvement in goals than me in England when it comes to midfielders.”

“Prayer is a power of the mind, and it is neither bizarre nor unintelligent. People of faith belong in the Democratic Party, and will be necessary to the effort if we’re to win in 2020,” the Democratic presidential candidate tweeted.

“I was born and raised in Texas so I’ve seen it. Millions of people today are praying that Dorian turn away from land, and treating those people with mockery or condescension because they believe it could help is part of how the overly secularized Left has lost lots of voters,” she added.

The Williamson campaign told the Hill earlier Wednesday that Williamson had been subjected to a double standard that was not applied to more traditional expressions of faith.

“It was a metaphor. When others speak of prayer and the mind it’s considered profound, but Williamson is held to a different standard,” the campaign said. “Because the comment led to confusion it was replaced.”

After deleting the initial tweet, Williamson tweeted “Prayers for the people of the Bahamas, Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas. May the peace of God be upon them and their hearts be comforted as they endure the storm.”

Pompeo pressed on possible Senate run by Kansas media

Secretary of State Mike PompeoMichael (Mike) Richard PompeoPompeo: US response to Floyd protests a ‘stark contrast’ to authoritarian regimes Trump administration accuses international court of corruption at ‘highest levels,’ authorizes sanctions A crisis on the Korean peninsula reinforces the need for allies MORE stressed that his focus is on his current job after being pressed on whether he would run for Senate in a series of interviews with Kansas media outlets.

The Wichita Eagle reported that Pompeo on Friday avoided clearly answering whether he would mount a bid.

He acknowledged the “noise” and speculation over a potential Senate campaign and, when pressed about his previous answers on it, said, “You can take it however you’d like.”

“I hear all the speculation, there’s a lot of people thinking about my future a lot more than I am,” he added. “I spend my days focused on delivering American foreign policy around the world, every hour, every day. That’s what I’m doing. I never vary from that.”

But my mission set, I get this privilege to be America’s secretary of state.”

“I intend to do this just as long as President Trump will give me this incredible privilege and every day I will work to deliver security for America’s people as America’s most senior diplomat,” Pompeo added.

Similarly, in an interview with talk radio station KNSS News, Pompeo said he was “focused” on his current job but also said he was “flattered” by people who say he would make a good senator.

“I’m serving America and working on President Trump’s team to deliver America’s foreign policy. That’s what I’m focused on,” Pompeo said.

“I do see the noise. I’m flattered when people say Mike will be a good United States senator representing Kansas. Susan and I love this place.  We miss our Shockers,” he added. “We miss our church there in Wichita and all our family and friends. But I’m doing something that I consider an incredible privilege, an opportunity of a lifetime to lead the State Department, and I’m focused on doing that each and every day.”

When host Steve McIntosh said he would ask Pompeo again next week about whether he was running, the secretary of State replied, “Fair enough.”

In an interview with talk radio station KCMO, the administration official again stressed that he will continue to be secretary of State, but added “goodness knows” what happens next.

“I’ve been unambiguous, but I continue to get asked. I’m focused on what I’m doing every day,” he said of the possibility of running for Senate. “I want to be the secretary of State as long as President Trump wants me to continue to do this. That’s my focus.”

“What comes next, goodness knows. But every day my sole focus is ensuring that I’m doing my best to deliver American diplomacy, and leading my team to successfully protect American people all around the world,” he added.

“Quite frankly, if I’m not confirmed by Nov. 3, then I expect I’ll be a candidate for the congressional seat,” Issa, who represented San Diego County for 18 years in the House before retiring earlier this year, told Roll Call Tuesday.

Issa created an exploratory committee last month to run for California’s 50th Congressional District to challenge Hunter, who is fighting federal corruption charges.

Hunter and his wife were indicted in August 2018 for allegedly misusing hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign funds and falsifying records. His wife, Margaret, pleaded guilty to one count of misusing funds, but the congressman is fighting the charges and is refusing to resign.

“There’s nothing wrong with his voting,” Issa said. “But he is injured in a way that, according to most polls I’ve seen — all polls I’ve seen — he cannot win reelection. And as a Republican, I don’t want to lose a seat that is clearly a seat that we need to have to get back in the majority,” he said.

While five other Republicans have also announced primary challenges to Hunter, Issa, who founded the Viper car alarm system and had been the wealthiest member of Congress, would pose a significant challenge to the incumbent with his ability personally beef up his campaign war chest.

Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar, who narrowly lost to Hunter in 2018, is running in the district again in 2020 and is likely to pose a substantial challenge to whichever Republican obtains the GOP’s congressional nomination.

“At a time when we are one tweet away from war, Kamala has demonstrated she has the tenacity, toughness, and judgment to restore American global leadership,” Gallego said in a statement.

Gallego, who also sits on the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, will likely also help Harris target Latino voters in Arizona, which is slated to play a crucial role in 2020.
