Klobuchar on missing campaigning for impeachment: 'I can do two things at once'

“I’m a mom, I can do two things at once,” she said on “CBS This Morning” on Friday.

Klobuchar is polling at about fifth place in Iowa, a neighboring state where the Minnesotan senator is hoping to win momentum. She’s behind the pack of top four candidates, making a strong showing in Iowa critical.

But the impeachment trial, which is set to run six days a week starting Tuesday, seems likely to keep her away from the Hawkeye State.

In the interview she touted her campaign network in Iowa and said she’d “Skype-in or phone-in,” to some campaign events.

“When I can go campaign in those early states, including Nevada and South Carolina, I will,” she said. “But when I have to be there [the Senate], I will.”

Klobuchar isn’t the only Democratic senator running for president who will have to juggle her schedule.

Gabbard knocks Clinton's jab at Sanders: 'This isn't high school'

“It’s time to grow up. This isn’t high school,” Gabbard said in an interview with WMUR News 9. “We’re talking about real challenges that our country needs to address and the need for real leadership to focus on them, not on what’s going on in Washington and the schoolyard cliques or whatever else it may be.”

Gabbard, who like Sanders is seeking her party’s 2020 presidential nomination, is polling near the bottom of the Democratic pack. She previously served as a surrogate for Sanders’s 2016 campaign when he challenged Clinton for the party’s nomination.

Sanders and Gabbard have maintained a cordial relationship during the presidential primary, with the Hawaii Democrat on Tuesday using the #ILikeBernie hashtag that trended on Twitter to defend Sanders in the wake of Clinton’s criticism.

Clinton and Gabbard formerly clashed when Clinton suggested the congresswoman was being groomed by Republicans to mount a third-party candidacy.

Gabbard, who is not seeking reelection to her House seat, has said she will not run as a third-party candidate.

Nationwide Bloomberg ad blasts Trump's treatment of military leaders

Former New York City Mayor Michael BloombergMichael BloombergEngel scrambles to fend off primary challenge from left It’s as if a Trump operative infiltrated the Democratic primary process Liberals embrace super PACs they once shunned MORE released a new nationwide television advertisement for his presidential campaign on Thursday, blasting President TrumpDonald John TrumpSenate advances public lands bill in late-night vote Warren, Democrats urge Trump to back down from veto threat over changing Confederate-named bases Esper orders ‘After Action Review’ of National Guard’s role in protests MORE over his reported treatment of military leaders.

The new ad goes after Trump over a report in a new book by The Washington Post’s Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker that details how Trump unloaded on the nation’s top military leaders in a private meeting, calling them “a bunch of dopes and babies.”

“The Pentagon. President Trump arrives for a briefing by top military leaders. Trump explodes. Attacks the war heroes in the room as losers and a bunch of dopes and babies,” the narrator in the ad states. “Many in the room had risked their lives for our country. Soldiers. Heroes, attacked by an arrogant and out of control president. Arrogance, ignorance, chaos. Enough. America needs a steady leader who will honor those who serve.”

Bloomberg is fast approaching the $200 million mark in advertising spending for his presidential campaign, which has focused predominantly on drawing contrasts between himself and Trump on issues such as health care and infrastructure.

The billionaire is not fundraising and so has not qualified for any of the Democratic presidential debates.

However, his ubiquitous advertisements on TV and social media have boosted him in the polls, with the latest CNN survey finding him in fourth place at 9 percent support. The CNN poll also found Bloomberg with a 9-point lead over Trump in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup.

Bloomberg’s massive anti-Trump spending has caught the president’s attention.

This morning, Trump lashed out at Bloomberg over Twitter.

Bloomberg’s campaign manager, Kevin Sheekey, was invited to discuss the new ad this morning on “Fox & Friends,” which the president is known to watch.

“These men and women risk their lives, they keep us and our families safe and protect this country at home and abroad,” Sheekey said. “Trump should be heaping praise about their service and sacrifice, not stripping them of their dignity.”

“Fox & Friends” host Brian Kilmeade pushed back, arguing that Trump had increased funding for Veterans Affairs (VA), bolstered the defense budget, increased military pay and donated his quarterly salary to the VA.

“Throwing money at a problem is not leadership,” Sheekey fired back.

“Today, we must remember the lessons of those dark days, and acknowledge the danger of allowing hate to fester,” Sanders, who is Jewish, said in a statement released by his campaign.

“We know that even the most advanced societies can succumb to barbarism. We know how darkness can overtake our world,” he continued, adding that Americans must not forget “the human capacity to stand up against hatred.”

“So in my view, there is nothing more important than building a movement to reject hate, fear, and division,” he added. “Today we join all our brothers and sisters to reject intolerance and bigotry and create a more just and peaceful world.”

Sanders has raised red flags about white nationalism in the U.S., often invoking his own family’s ties to the Holocaust in Poland.

“I’m Jewish, my family came from Poland. My father’s whole family was wiped out by Hitler and his white nationalism,” Sanders said at the Young Leader’s Conference last August in Atlanta. “Too many people have fought over the years — too many people have died against racism – to allow it to resurface and flourish in America.”

McCarthy raises over $10 million in Q4 for House GOP

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthyKevin Owen McCarthyHouse Republicans hopeful about bipartisan path forward on police reform legislation Trump on collision course with Congress over bases with Confederate names McConnell: States should make decision on Confederate statues MORE (R-Calif.) raked in $10.78 million for the lower chamber’s Republicans in the fourth quarter of 2019 as the GOP seeks to close the fundraising gap with Democrats.

The haul, which brought McCarthy’s total 2019 fundraising to $52.35 million, comes as top Republicans urge their fellow lawmakers in the party to step up their own fundraising in an effort to retake the House after losing the majority in the 2018 midterms.

Nevertheless, the California Republican expressed confidence that the GOP could make gains in November’s election.

“House Democrats are the greatest threat to the greatest economy in our lifetime. The American people don’t want socialism. They want success, and a House Republican Majority in 2021 with a re-elected Trump presidency will be ready to achieve it,” McCarthy said in a statement Tuesday.

McCarthy and other top officials warned lawmakers of the deficit at a closed-door meeting Tuesday, with the California Republican telling his members, “We’re getting our ass kicked.”

Chelsea are closing in on their third summer signing with a deal for French centre-back Malang Sarr nearing completion, according to reports.

And now David Ornstein has now confirmed that Chelsea are closing in on their third signing of the summer, with France under-21 international Sarr preparing to move to Stamford Bridge.

The free agent ‘has found an agreement’ with the Blues and Desfarges also talks about a five-year contract, with the player being loaned out next season.
