USA Wrestling and FILA are asking the wrestling community worldwide to assist in an important poll about which sport should be in the Olympic Games.
Inside the Games, a leading Olympic website, is asking a simple question. Which sport do you think the IOC should vote to include on the Olympic programme for 2020?
Wrestling is up against two other sports for the final provisional sport spot in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. Wrestling must beat out squash and the combined baseball/softball bid. The IOC General Assembly will vote on this on September 8.
Earlier this year, Inside the Games did a similar poll with the eight candidate sports prior to the IOC Executive Board vote for the shortlist of sports for the Olympic program. At that time, wrestling won the poll with 42.2% of the vote, and a total of 102,388 votes. This time, we have two opponents for the poll, and we need to defeat them both once again.

As noted, WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka passed away today at the age of 73 after a battle with stomach cancer. WWE issued this statement on his passing:

WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka has passed away.
Snuka is regarded by many as the pioneer of high-flying offense because of his Superfly Splash from the top turnbuckle. His dive off the top of the steel cage onto Don Muraco at Madison Square Garden as hundreds of flash bulbs went off will forever live as one of the most memorable moments in WWE history.
WWE extends its condolences to Snuka’s family, friends and fans.

Tonight’s WWE SmackDown and 205 Live will take place from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee with more hype for the Royal Rumble.
Announced for SmackDown is Jerry Lawler hosting his “King’s Court” segment, plus a steel cage match with SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss defending against Becky Lynch, and a look at the shopping trip with Carmella and James Ellsworth. 205 Live will feature Jack Gallagher vs. Ariya Daivari in an “I Forfeit” match.

– Below is video from this week’s Talking Smack with Naomi talking about the SmackDown women’s division. Naomi says the division as at its best and they have very talented, hungry women but she’s here to validate herself and proving where she stands in the division. In regards to her title shot against SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss at Elimination Chamber, Naomi says it’s her goal and her dream to walk into WrestleMania 33 with the title, in her hometown.
– As noted, Royal Rumble winner Randy Orton vs. WWE Champion John Cena in a non-title match has been announced for next week’s SmackDown. Below is video from Talking Smack where Orton says he wants to face Cena at WrestleMania 33. Orton says whether the fans know it or not, they want to see Cena vs. Orton again.
Regarding Cena’s momentum, Orton says he’s not worried because he pinned Cena on SmackDown. Orton says Cena tying Ric Flair’s record is impressive but it doesn’t matter, he’s going to beat Cena.

– In the video below, TMZ Sports catches up with John Cena and asks him about Shaquille O’Neal vs. Big Show at WrestleMania 33. Cena says Show is taking the match very seriously and is in great shape. Cena says he’s known Show for 15 years and he’s really transformed his body. Cena thinks Show really has something to prove at WrestleMania after the “please retire” chants from a few years back really got to him. Cena is confident that Show is busting his ass to make his mark on WrestleMania.
– We noted before that WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate would make his return to WWE NXT on February 15th in a title defense against Trent Seven. Bate made his debut on this week’s show and defeated Oney Lorcan in a non-title match. It appears WWE UK matches may now be a regular thing for NXT as Pete Dunne vs. Mark Andrews will take place on the March 1st episode. It’s worth noting that the WWE UK graphics were on display inside Full Sail University during the Bate vs. Seven and Dunne vs. Andrews matches last night.
