Shearer slams Spurs and Arsenal after ‘bland’, ‘drab’ derby

Alan Shearer has had a dig at both Tottenham and Arsenal after the north London derby, claiming they are “way, way behind the top of the league”.

Toby Alderweireld’s header meant Spurs came from behind to secure all three points at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, leaving them with a chance of qualifying for the Europa League.

It’s been a turbulent season for both clubs, with Mikel Arteta and Jose Mourinho appointed after poor starts to their campaigns.

And Shearer says the derby on Sunday evening was an illustration of how much work both clubs still have to do to challenge for the top four next season.

“Once upon a time, the North London derby would set even the pulses of neutral observers racing,” he told The Sun.

“But yesterday’s renewal was a really flat and drab affair.

“And you cannot entirely blame the lack of a crowd for how poor the fare was dished up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

“It was bland stuff, particularly compared to some of the thrillers of the past at Spurs’ home, like Arsenal’s 5-4 victory in that epic clash in November 2004.

“The Gunners had the majority of possession without doing a lot with it. Aside from their goal, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit the bar and was denied by a decent Hugo Lloris save.

“Spurs won it thanks to a stupid defensive mistake and a set-piece.

“That was about the sum of it and I don’t think either team deserved to win.

“Many of those neutrals who stayed in to watch probably found themselves wishing they’d taken advantage of the easing of lockdown and got out of the house on a Sunday afternoon!

“I don’t think we learned anything from this match that we didn’t already know. There is a massive amount of work to be done with both sides.

“They are way, way behind the top of the league. And you can’t compare the football these two are playing with what Liverpool and Manchester City have produced this season.”

Liverpool defender prepares to make unexpected move to Russia

Dejan Lovren is set to end his six-year spell at Liverpool as Zenit St Petersburg close in on a deal for the defender, according to reports.

Croatian defender Lovren has appeared for the Reds 185 times since arriving in a £20m deal from Southampton in 2014. However, with just a year left on his contract, he will be allowed to move on this summer.

TEAMtalk reported earlier in the year that Lovren will have his pick from a four London clubs, while Roma and Napoli were also keen. But The Times claims Lovren is, in fact, set to move to Zenit St Petersburg.

According to Russian journalist Andrey Pankov, of Russia outlet Championship, Lovren could make the move as a free agent. That’s because Lovren has an ‘agreement’ with Liverpool that he can leave early.

Reports suggest Jurgen Klopp has sanctioned the departure due to his outstanding service to the club. It’s claimed the German doesn’t want to force the centre-half to stay with the club and sit on the bench.

The Times reporter Paul Joyce later tweeted to say Liverpool do hold a one-year option on Lovren’s deal. That means he is effectively contracted to the Reds until 2022 – meaning claims of a free transfer may be premature.

Last September, Lovren admitted Klopp convinced him to stay at Anfield for another season.

“I wanted to leave, it didn’t happen, I was told Liverpool need me and I accepted that,” he said.

“It was not meant to be for me to leave.

“Last week I spoke to Klopp again. He told me he understands me, knows I am not happy, but he also said: ‘Look, now it [the transfer window] is finished, I want you to reset your head, you’re important’.”

Liverpool, of course, have Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk as their first choice defensive pairing.

The Premier League champions also have Joel Matip to call on, while Fabinho can fill in when required. Furthermore, they have also been linked with the likes Ben White and Kalidou Koulibaly as replacements.

Klopp hints at Liverpool departure date as he looks to future

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that he will leave Liverpool in four years’ time when his contract expires at Anfield in 2024.

The German boss led the Reds to their first Premier League title in 30 years as they won the league with seven games to spare.

Their Premier League triumph came after winning the Champions League at the end of last term, beating Tottenham 2-0 in the Madrid final.

By winning the Champions League and Premier League, Klopp has secured a godlike status around Merseyside and he still has at least four years to cement his place in Liverpool folklore.

When asked how long he will be staying in England, Klopp told SWR Sport (via Goal): “Four years in Liverpool.”

Asked if that means he will return to Germany, the Liverpool boss added: “Definitely to live, after my career. Most likely even to Mainz.”

However, Klopp admits nothing is certain, admitting: “In five years the world can look very different again.”

Meanwhile, Klopp can’t wait to celebrate Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph in a “crazy way” when fans are allowed back in the stadium, he added: “The moment we can do that again, we want to celebrate the title. Even if that is a little strange, that you celebrate a title several months later.

“But Liverpool is an exceptional club, we will surely get something done. We’re going to try to celebrate the title in a crazy way.

“We want to celebrate life. People can now plan longer so that they can be there. Maybe we can make something out of it that hasn’t been done before.”

Backstage News on IMPACT Wrestling’s Time Slot on Pursuit

Click:karseell collagen

IMPACT Wrestling announced last week that its flagship weekly two-hour program, IMPACT!, will move to Friday nights on The Pursuit Channel beginning on January 11th. Despite Anthem owning the station, the show will remain at 10PM ET, which is the time-slot it’s been airing at since October. IMPACT has drawn its lowest viewership in their history in The 10PM time-slot.
On a recent edition of The Wrestling Observer Radio Program, Dave Meltzer discussed IMPACT’s decision to move to Friday nights and shed some light on the reasoning behind the move. Meltzer reported that the move to Friday nights was a long-term plan by the organization and was taking SmackDown LIVE’s move to FOX this October into consideration. Meltzer noted that IMPACT Wrestling is important to The Fight Network because they recently lost UFC and decided to move IMPACT! to Friday nights to try and capitalize on the audience that watches SmackDown LIVE from 8PM to 10PM ET, so that they can then tune into IMPACT! at 10PM ET. The idea is that millions of people will be watching SmackDown on Fridays and will switch over to IMPACT after the show is over.
IMPACT Executive Vice President Scott D’Amore spoke with Wrestling Inc. last Friday and discussed the move, as seen below:
“The first part of this deal is what we’re doing now, the flagship Impact broadcast, airing on Friday nights at 10 pm ET,” D’Amore said. “I know people look at that and go, ‘Oh my God, it’s the death spot.’ Well, if you look back, when we debuted on Spike TV, it’s a different era and network, but wrestling fans find good wrestling. When we went on Spike TV at 11 o’clock on Saturday, we went out there and did probably about 850k viewers when we debuted. We’re excited to work with Pursuit on building it as a platform. We have some ideas and things in the work for other properties on Pursuit. Also, looking to expanding our domestic and international distributions.”
Pursuit launched in 2008 and just became Nielsen-rated in January of this year. Meltzer noted that 30 million homes get Pursuit, which is a 55% drop from The 67 million homes that have Pop TV. While it is in more homes than beIn Sports (MLW Fusion), it reaches fewer households than El Rey Network (Lucha Underground) & AXS TV (NJPW on AXS).
